forsale

I have all the parts to build a 102HP..145 c.i. ..9-1 compression ratio, manual trans[4 spd.].for delivery at the "Fan Belt Toss"[Palm Springs, Ca.] in late Oct. 2017 ...I am calling it a heavy duty 102 because it will be built with a "YR" block[turbo] ...stronger rods and pistons, nitrided crankshaft..102 heads [9-1 C.R.] ..folded fin oil cooler, '64 mag fan, 110 dist. ..powered coated iron crank pulley, new thermostats..rebuilt starter and generator...'65 carbs with PEV [power enrichment valve]...single 110 air cleaner ..etc. This engine will be on a rolling three point powertrain run stand as I did last year and started up on the field! ..It will have a new Clarks cam and gear...Clarks main and rod bearings..cast iron rings ..new FC valves [ rotater exh.] ....$2,500 ..$1,500 down, balance on delivery. .. Engine will need a bolted manual trans flywheel [ Cal. Corvair, Clarks or have your core done by Dave Palmer] .. your cost. ..I start the engine up with a solid flywheel and an outer presure plate cover with ring gear or you can send me your clutch parts. Forsale ...Paul

Does your "rebuild" include:

New pistons & rebored cylinders?

New intake valves, seats & springs?

New fan bearing?

Thank you,
Ralph

The std. turbo pistons are in perfect shape..the cylinders have less than .002 taper...so they will be ridge reamed and honed. ..New idler and fan bearings ..new intake valves wilh seals. ...valve seats ground and valves lapped in. ...valve springs checked and shims added if needed, ..I do have a set of new valve springs if needed. New perimeter seals stapled on...tin painted with semi-gloss black, high heat on the lowers. Later heavy metal ga. valve covers with spreaders. Felpro felt pan gasket. Viton "O" rings. ...Up grade Corvair alternator [self-regulated], not one-wire, at extra cost. I will send pictures of the rods and pistons and the cylinders when refurbushed.

The 145 cubic inch engines do not have the piston cracking problems the 164 cubic inch engines have.

Reusing these is usually not an issue like it is for the 164 engines.thumbs up

"cylinders have less than .002 taper...so they will be ridge reamed"
If you only have .002 taper how can you have a ridge to ream?

What is being done with tgmhe crank? Hss it been miced and micro polished?

What work besides the valve grind and vale lap are going to be done to the heads?
Will the gaaket rails be checked for warpage? Will head gasket area be re-surfaced? Will valve guide tolerances be checked? Will it be stock steel head gaskets or copper? Will new lifters be included? Fuel pump? Oil pump? Rockers, pushrods? Rocker balls and nuts? Plugs? Wires? Fuel lines?

You get what you pay for with a homespun "rebuild".

For $2500.00 it's probably worth it if you're on a budget and don't need a warranty.

Good luck to the seller as well as the buyer!

For as many miles as most of us put on our Vairs any more this is a good deal IMHO. If your racing, running HP or turbo or driving a UV across the country, then more expensive options may be in order.

Here's a video of his most recent build.

Kehler Engine

Kehler Engine

This is my 140, you're seeing the first few minutes of it running after the first start.

I liked that Paul wouldn't cut any corners. He is all about doing things right from process to parts. He is all for using good used parts but inspects, tests and measures EVERYTHING. I don't think there is a singe part on the drive train that wasn't gone through. We reconditioned some parts and didn't hesitate to buy anything that needed replacing in order to do the job right and increase reliability.

It was a pleasure working with Paul and learning from him. I look forward to continuing the process on other projects.

I'll continue to post video's as I put miles on the motor, trans and diff that were all rebuild. I'm in the middle of installing it now.

Just curious, why a 110 distributor instead of a 102?

It's new and what I ran before. Im using this for now while I save to buy Seths's electeonic unit.

I needed to get the car on the road again ASAP as it's my daily driver. I can drive it as is while I save for the part.

Thanks, Jamison, for the kind words! It was a great, fun build! ...For me, it was satisfying to mentor a young man so the experience and knowledge would be continued to another generation! ..Great job!!! ...The 4 spd. is done and the diff. is being done now. ....To address the original post, the 102HP engine is now being rebuilt for one of our new members for his beautiful Greenbrier that had the cam gear fail shortly after buying it.[ see the previous post] ..I will post pictures and info on this build shortly.
