OT-Neep Part- 63 Skylark
Posted by: bought1 ()
Date: March 20, 2017 05:29PM

My uncle is turning 80 years old this April and he has been working on restoring his 1963 Buick Skylark convertible for the last 15 years. He is in need of a center link for the steering. Its the last part he needs to put it back on the road. I really want to see him enjoy the car before he can no longer drive. Anyone have a bead on a center link? Thanks!

Not cheap but NAPA has it in stock.

Same item number as in Matt's link.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, NAPA has a $185 core charge, and I have no core. So that's a little too spendy for me. I realize this is a one year part and will be hard to find a good used one, but I'm hoping...

That is a tough one, just a little searching and they just aren't out there, sounds like the core charge is reasonable. Another option is modification, tough call.

These craiglist ads are worth a try.

Never know who might have your random part.

You are on the west coast right bought1?

Thanks for looking Phil. I am in Connecticut. The 63 Sklark centerlink is a one year only deal specific to the Skylark. So, almost impossible to find. He's been looking for a good used one for a couple of years now. I'm trying to surprise him for his 80th birthday so getting his old one off the car is impossible without him knowing since he is home all day every day. I will try the ads you posted.
I aso email desert valley auto parts as they have a 63 on their lot. They have not responded yet. Thanks!

Dave typically the core charge at NAPA can be refunded later. My point being that you can buy the NAPA part now and of course pay the core charge then after the surprise you can remove the old part and return for the refund. Do this with your local NAPA store of course.

Where did you find it?
Us Buick guys like to hear about sources...

I used to have a 1963 Special Wagon with the 215 - great one!
Had a 1964 Skylark, and now have the 1965 Riviera w/ 425 nailhead V8.

Found it at Desert Valley Auto Parts. Put a feeler out to them and they called me in 45 minutes! Nice folks.

He's going to crap his pants! He's been looking for one for years. I should now be his favorite nephew!grinning smiley

Used parts can be a real surprise!

Cheers!

I know its a gamble, but anything is better that the one he has now, and for the price, I think its worth a shot. They will take it back if it is now as advertised.
