What is the secret to sliding the top boot into the retainer.

I use Dupont Teflon spray on the bead. You have to keep it real straight when entering the channel. Then its kind of a push pull deal. If its cold and stiff it would help to have someone pull it through while you are feeding it in.

A bit of silicone grease goes a long way as well.

Slow and steady, push and pull. A helper on the other side is a plus.

I had the same problem, and my question is do you just leave the boot attached to the back of the seat. Because there is no way I'm going through that again. Lol

I leave it in the well during the summer. The only time the top goes up is when I get caught in rain where I can't go fast enough too stay dry. I pull it out during the winter and store it. They ain't cheap.

This the retainer along the back side of the seat?

I just disassembled a LM convertible last week - first time for that - and saw some stuff I'd never seen.

I have the original one for my convert and its in great shape. The harder plastic liner that the snaps attach to is brittle and the snaps are coming out of it. I have been trying to think of a way to save it as it really does look great.

Hi Lee, my situation is the same. What did was take a piece clear flexible plastic, like from a heavy duty blister pack. I cut it to a length about 2" past both sides of the snap and the width of the seam threads. Then cut an oval hole for the snap, allowing it to slide a little as the originals do. Then I glued it with an appropriate glue. One has been in place for several years. I am a little more careful about how I pop the snaps off now. I can send a pic if this doesn't make sense.

When the top is up the boot fits perfectly over the well, I see no reason to ever remove it unless like J. O. and the car has a lot of sun exposure.

Here ya go Lee. The PIC isn't much help since the repair is so clear. The only glue I have that is that clear is the vinyl cement used for repairing pools and inflatable toys, so I guess that's what I used.

Ok, I have a boot and trying to figure out how to put it in the back seat clip. There is a cover over a plywood shelf. And what is this piece for? there is one on the passenger side but not on the drivers side.

Its looks like half of the top hold down for a non motorized top. One each side, they break easily when old.

Ok I will have to get another order from Clarks, what does it hook on to? I should have said manual top.

You will see when you put the top down, no explain needed. Also, some guys don't let them snap into the lock position, they dampen the snap with a finger to avoid what happened to yours.

Clarks does vinyl repair. You may want to give them a call and see if you can ship them your boot.
