Found my 1965 Corsa Convertible!
Posted by: krfjkm ()

I have been on the hunt for a 1965 Corsa Convertible-- I put a notice on the forum and had several folks reach out with help and suggestions-- this is a great forum!

Jim Stukenborg from Dayton OH let me know about this one and it was exactly what I had been looking for. There is a neat story around this car that makes it even cooler.

There is a candy company in Ohio named Esther Price Candies-- the 2 owners are car guys and they have a big shop and an amazing car museum. It is filled with amazing cars. These 2 owners had 2 folks at the shop (Larry and Leroy) who were true craftsmen and when the owners found a car they gave it to them and they made them perfect. Well, it turns out the guys are wanting to skinny down their fleet and I was fortunate enough to get their Corvair.

From the body plate I can tell it has many options and it has a true 51,000 miles. The underside looks like it is brand new and I have yet to find any rust. It has the tele-column and the AM/FM pushbutton that works perfect. It even has the spare tire lock with keys. The top is perfect and everything works on the dash but a clock.

She runs fine but needs a bit of a tune up and some adjusting--- she's been in a museum for so many years. Rod from the Queen City Corvair club is coming over to help me get it adjusted.

Jim Stukenborg came over to the shop in Dayton Ohio to meet me and we got to shake hands yesterday. The previous owner even sent me a couple of boxes of candy to have as a gift.

The drive home was tough-- I trailered it and wouldn't you know the snow and ice started up and the car got covered in salt grime. I drove 1100 miles in about 26 hours but once I got it unloaded I washed her really well (in the dark!).

Rod K from the Queen City Corvair Club came over this afternoon and helped me look it over--- he has been great.

Hope you like the pictures--

Jim

WOW!!! Look at the color of that interior. That is the ultimate color. Be sure you have clean clothes when you sit in it. And call me when you are ready to sell.

That is great, I visit the Esther Price store about once a year when we visit family in the Dayton area. I didn't know the owners were car guys.

Nicely done! You should enjoy that one a lot.
Over the years, I've run across maybe a dozen or so well-preserved Corvairs of various sorts never really had the urge to buy one. Always had other things to do.
And then I ran across The Very Car I first bought 49 years ago, of which I am the second, fourth and seventh owner.
Eventually I'll provide some photos of that when it's finished.
But as of this week, have reached a turning point in the restoration. More things are now going back on to the car than are coming off.
There are times when I truly do wish I'd found it in as good a shape as the one you have. But then....

Same car I bought in 1/68 the night before I went to Viet Nam he second time. Got it back in 8/15. Plan its first public runout come July.

I know car's history and it has never had the VIN tag removed. The rivets are round.

Great looking car you found Jim!

That car could say salvaged, flooded, rebuilt, or retitled. I would be proud to park that in my garage or drive it to the malt shop AS IS. Let me know when you want to sell it.

Congratulations on finding what you were looking for! Last summer I saw this car in person in the Esther Price garage where it was being stored and it is a beauty!

Really Love that paint color!
On the body tag, I don't get why anyone would mess with it on a restoration confused smiley
