() Date: March 04, 2017 08:38PM That sounds good to me. That is what the original lube looked like but was more like adhesive! Brice 66 Corsa Turbo Convertible Bozeman, Montana Re: Window Regulator Gear Lube? Posted by:

() Date: March 04, 2017 10:36PM 50 years, I recently had to remove the lube from my 98 Park Avenue and re-apply white lithium lube. 18 years and it was like cement. I had to lower the window pulling down on the glass while pushing the switch. Now, zip, done. ![]() I've always used white lithium lube for window parts. () Date: March 04, 2017 11:02PM White lithium was used, but it tends to dry out after five years (design life span of 60's cars). Eventually it binds things up. There are much better lubricants now. If the car is going to be used in adverse weather you can use water resistant marine bearing grease used on boat trailers. Re: Window Regulator Gear Lube? Posted by:

() Date: March 05, 2017 12:05AM I used axle grease on the beetles regulators... However, I was over zealous and always got a little red and tack on the window when ever I rolled it down and up again. Kyle Re: Window Regulator Gear Lube? Posted by:

() Date: March 05, 2017 06:52AM White is the preferred for color, but any multipurpose #2 grease will do. I once asked the Nissan dealer why he bought my white food grade grease, and he said customers did not like to see colored grease on the hinges, door locks, etc. Restoration in Bolivia Richard's Mini Pickup Richard's Corvair Richard's Renault Dauphine ![]() Selection of the Right Motor Oil for the Corvair Selection of the right transmission oil for the Corvair How to polish and restore stainless and aluminum trim Re: Window Regulator Gear Lube? () Date: March 05, 2017 07:17AM I removed mine, soaked them in solvent, then still had to scrape off the old waxy OEM grease that was hardened in place. I relubed w/ synthentic wheel bearing grease on the splines and spray synthetic lube for the pivots. Works smooth as butter now! () Date: March 06, 2017 09:05AM I use motorcycle chain lube in the spray can. It soaks into all the right places then turns into grease when the propellant dries up. It is great for door hinges and almost anything that moves and does not leave a residue. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
