Corvairs Northwest's own Rob Leone presented a beautiful 44th Northwest Econo-Run this year. The host hotel had just been recently opened and the decor was very nicely done. Our route was just over 130 miles touring the spectacular Olympic National Forest on U.S. 101 south, then on beautiful backroads of Mason county. Majority of the run was along the waterfront.
Entrants came from Canada, Oregon, Idaho and Eastern Washington again this year.
We enjoyed another edition of Ron Backman's "Corvair Jeopardy" show with some challenging answers about Corvair, The 1960s, Past conventions, etc. Very entertaining and fun. Personalized awards were presented to the winners. Top mileage was over 29 mpg from a 140 4 speed driven by Rex Johnson.
David Bailey took plenty of photos of the event. This is his photo of Rex Johnson's fabulous, well travelled 1968 Monza convertible along side his custom Corvair swap meet/tool sales trailer.

Check out his work:

Thanks to Corvairs Northwest for hosting Econorun 44. Great accommodations, good weather, a beautiful driving route and lots of good company.

Congratulations to the driving team of Johnson, Johnson and Johnson for taking first place in both 2 carb manual and 4 carb manual classes. Suzanne (driver) and Laura Johnson (navigator) drove Suzanne's 68 Monza coupe in the 2 carb class scoring a 28.7 MPG, while Rex drove their 69 Monza convertible in the 4 carb class scoring 29.3 MPG over the 133 mile course. Pretty good mileage for a 140 with all smog equipment in place and functional. Way to go Team Johnson!

Thanks again Corvairs Northwest, see you next year.

Rex Johnsons fabulous well travelled Monza Convertible is a 1969 (#441 as I recall). Looks like a fun time for sure in some beautiful country.

Mr. Scarr forgot to mention that he navigated for me in the '69 (ok we actually just followed Suzanne and Laura in the '68. Tim is correct that it is #441. The '69 140hp with full smog does quite well considering that it has over 160K on the engine with almost 260K on the car. The well traveled trailer has over 50K on it now and the '68 has its smog system on also.
