Aztec Bronze convt in SC about to be scrapped - time sensitive!
Posted by: bbakerga ()
Date: January 19, 2017 11:12AM

This car is about to be parted out, but it breaks my heart to see what seems to be a VERY salvageable 66 Aztec bronze convertible... scrapped.

My wife would KILL me if I bought it. sad smiley

This car is not mine, and it's not actually for sale, but I just saw it listed for parts, and the guy told me the car isn't really for sale, but he would sell it to me for $2500 cash if I commit TODAY. They believe they will make more than that in parts. He got yelled at by his boss for asking about selling the car, and they won't negotiate or entertain offers/inquiries from anyone. He said he would take a call from me but not anyone else.

So... no title, no bill of sale. If you are interested, PM me immediately.

Here are the pics.

The stripes make it a twin to mine . Looks ok in the pics. Where is it? I'm not a buyer but may could look at it if it's close and someone is interested.

As much as I would like to buy it, I can't imagine being able to swing it. Moomba, if you know anyone in that area that might be interested, try to contact them ASAP. I will connect them with the guy that I talked to.

Looks Waaaay too nice to be sold for parts. If you could see the trunk and the front crossmember, I'd say $2,500 is a good deal.

That's my thought, Paul. Especially since it's an Aztec/Aztec color combo.

I will call the guy back to see if I can get some more pics... rust areas, body tag, interior, etc.

I did confirm it is missing the driver seat.

No title would be a problem for a lot of people.

Understood. Every state handles titles differently. I know GA has a process for titling an "abandoned" car... I am checking into that FWIW.

I talked to the guy again, and he is planning to text me pics including the body tag tonight or tomorrow.

Whoa! Slow down there, guys. It might be a rare color but why does it have a '65 front trim and hood??? I'd check for collision repair and possible grafting. The Monza badges on the fenders appear to be '66 though. No mystery box so it's definitely a '66.

I agree that they won't make anywhere near $2500 in parts. They'd be lucky if they got a grand.

They could.

I parted a 65 4-door and made $1500. I still have every single part of the factory A/C system, the 4-speed tranny/diff plus a few sheet metal parts too. Best offer for the whole car before I parted it was $500.

Looks like a pick - a - part type yard.

What are the typical prices for parts, add them up. Engine already looks suspect to a buyer, no oil filter? No harmonic balancer or belt.

2 doors, 2 lids, engine, transaxle, steering box, who is going to cut off fenders or quarters? 3 wheel covers and misc. small trim.

Now, if they charged a lot for a convertible rear seat bottom, that would sell quick if they shipped. Oh, pick-a-part people do not do that....grinning smiley

Engine $200
Transmission $145
Differential $120
Doors $55 each
Trunk lid $45
Engine lid $45
Steering box $25
Hub Cap, wire $7 each
Seat, bench $13

Now, how many small parts do you need to sell to get to $2500? grinning smiley

They may or may not actually GET $2500 in parts, but they THINK they will, so that's why they set the price that way. They don't want to sell the whole car.

The bigger question isn't what it's actually worth in parts. The question is what it is worth as a car.

Back seat bottom appears to be really good, so if the complete rear seat is there that's another $150 or so for a really good frame if the cord trim is on the top piece.

There are two questions here regarding "parts value". What the pick-a-part would get for all the sellable parts, or what one of us would get for them by selling locally, online, etc.

I think there would be little risk in buying the car and selling for parts, but unless the thing is rotten beyond reasonable repair, it looks pretty damn nice for a $2500 Aztec Bronze convertible. My guess is that somebody could spend some time cleaning and buffing, with some spot repair/paint... and typical mechanical fixes and have a presentable, drivable car for under $5k. It would also make a great candidate for a total restoration and I would guess the value on a fully restored Aztec vert at ~$15k +.
