64 Monza memorial project
Posted by: strangecars ()
Date: October 30, 2016 04:43PM

Eric Bawden gave me the car. It was his father's first and then his best friend's until he passed away. Eric receive the car and had hung onto it until today. He gave it to me with the understanding that I would fix it up and keep it going. Here are some pictures of it as it is now.

Very good. The body looks good, nice wheels.
Do you have pics of how it was?
What's your plan - do it as-was, or possibly as how they might have wanted it?

Looks like the owner was preparing for a paint job.

This would make a great Corvair Club Project. Get the local Boise are Corvair owners together for a great goal.
I bet some of the long-time members in the area might have known Mr. Bawden.
Great that you are going forward with the project.

The initial plan is to inventory the spare parts, change all of the fluids and see it it will start. Sort out the brakes and take it for a test drive. Also make some necessary changes to the heating and cooling system. Long term plan will include painting it back to Ermie white and restoring the interior.

Looks like a good start for autox and canyon carving on those mountain roads. Good luck with it

Depending on how long they ran it, I've seen engines over heated and ruined running wires with that style boot. Thankfully I think Seth sells just boots it you like the wires.
Great start to a project.

Looks like a Wagon rear bumper in there!
New bolts on at least some of the front end.
And cripes!!!! I remember and used to run one of the CD ignition systems! That takes me back!

Good stuff there. With the right TLC that could make a nice runner!smileys with beer

It's missing a few parts that I will need like a generator and mount a few of the cooling shroud pieces, door panels, carpet but I have all of that stuff in storage.

Which end of the generator mount do you need? I'd be willing to donate one to the cause.

I found the generator mount. I over looked it, it was on the engine. Oops

I'm still tinkering, the oil was changed, temporarily unhooked the Archer ignition box, the coil has been changed, distributor disassembled and cleaned. The tank has old fuel in it. I don't have the fuel lines hooked up to the fuel pump. Just some fresh gas in the float bowl. No brakes yet. The funnies thing was the dog food kibble flying out of the glass packs. I didn't get that video. Here is the start up. [www.youtube.com]

Sounds decent... was wondering how it would run with all the oil on the engine..

I didn't want to get it warm and set a mouse house on fire but from the mufflers it did smoke some and spew kibble out on the driveway.
Next.....
It needs a new belt and that requires removing the intake manifold. I might install a factory set of carbs. Clean the fuel tank and bleed the brakes.
