"the mind of the original buyer"
That line brings back a memory for me. I remember being with my parents at Monrovia Chevrolet for my parents to buy a new car. They bought a 1966 (I think) Corvair 500 coupe with a bench seat, rubber floor mats, and the PG.
If the salesman tried to upsell my dad he would have been wasting his time. I could imagine the salesman saying to my dad "for 12 more you could get a wood steering wheel or for 14 you could have wire wheel hub caps" my dad (depression era) would have said "I don't need that". In my dads mind (the buyer) he knew what it was like being without food. He also had 4 kids to raise. So in his mind he was there that day to buy a car that was cheap, there, and ready for delivery. He bought all his cars that way-every 4-5 years.

Hmm... I'm going to have to look through the boxes one more time. I can't think of any reason I shouldn't still have it. Thanks for the offer!

I'm looking forward to the restoration thread. Will you be starting another thread documenting it when the time comes?

Update: The Sprint was loaded onto a carrier yesterday! It's about a 1300 mile drive with two to drop before he gets here. Knowing how these guys work, I'm expecting arrival late tomorrow. Whee Hee! Can't believe this is coming together.

In other news: I went through my boxes and found the vintage Sprint literature I have but found only my Phoenix Brochure and the Car & Driver copy (+ my Solar catalog). No sign of my Sprint brochure. It has to be here somewhere! I can't imagine a scenario where I would have let it go.

Will you be doing 100% full nut and bolt sandblasted to the bare-bones kind of rustoration? What I think we should do is I should bring my Sprint over to you, and you can do them simultaneously, cuz my Sprint is in just slightly better shape than yours.

Holy Cow it's really here!

The transporter arrived at about 4:30! While the engine started up (with a little ether per recommendation of the seller) it didn't have enough power to back up and out of the down-facing ramp. We had to pull it up to the flat with some ratchet straps.sad smiley

It does run and drive but boy there's something crunching around back there. It sounds like a U-joint gave its all. I'll find out when I put it up on the rack.

THE KEYS FIT! The set of original keys I saved as a memento fit like a charm, in the ignition, doors, and trunk! How's that for amazing!!!spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

It's going to be a long slog - I've never considered restoring a car that is this, ahem, "weathered". The body is really in good shape, even the windshield corners are perfect but the interior, especially the rear floor, is terrible all the way down to the rusty tach and speedometer faces.

And yes, the door gauges I installed are still there in all their glory.grinning smiley

A few more shots. The car came with a bunch of AC turbo air filters and oil filters. There must be a dozen air filters or more! Lots of goodies!

The last photo - not what you typically see in an ad photo. Ugh.

As my wife said when I showed her this... That makes you tear up. Can't wait to follow the progress, and I'm sure I speak for many here that we will all be chomping at the bit to help with parts etc where we can.

I will be donating a case of duct tape to repair the convertible top and a piece of scrap tin, maybe a stop sign to repair the rear floor

Great idea on the duct tape! If I used black tape no one would ever know.

I would leave the top as it. Just give it a shot of clear coat to seal up the patina.

What is the knob on the dash for? Just to the right of the tach.

I may have missed this in an earlier post, but what 's in this car (other than the badge) that makes it a Fitch?

Copied from earlier in the thread:

Sprint equipment: Aeon rubber springs front and rear, Koni shocks, steering stabilizer, original 140 had the secondary linkage mod and Fitch's individual air cleaners. The dash had the flash-to-pass lever operating Lucas Flamethrower high-beam lights, and of course the rear emblem. (moved to over radio for some reason).

Presumably the black cove, black headlights, and black under the rocker molding were also done by Fitch. Those colors were in place when I bought the car as a five-year old car with 42k miles in 1971.
