The white top is not factory original (at least that what the experts tell me). Two-tone was not available in 62. I do see something on the buyer's order that says "Local $27.00". I am guessing that the dealer either painted it or had it painted. I find no other evidence of anyone painting it. It's very nicely done. And, I like the way it looks.

Enjoy the Corvair.

The White top was available on 62 to 64 Sedans and would be listed on the trim tag as Paint code 959

TWO TONE COMBO
Ermine White over Silver Blue 62-64 959

However, your trim tag indicates a solid silver blue car, adding the two tone paint was common at the dealership, especially if they did not have a two tone on lot or had too many solid color examples.

I would agree that the charge on the invoice for $27 would most likely be the white top paint....

Very nice....

Woo Hoo!!!! Big day for the 62 Monza today. After taking the engine down to replace the blower bearing. Refinished all the sheet metal, rebuilt the carbs, etc... Finally got to the point where I could start it from a gas can. It came to life. Pretty noisy at first. It took a while for it to quiet down but it did. Nice and quiet now. Still needs some fine adjustments but sounds great!

I should mention that it presumably has not run since 1994.

Now onto rebuilding the brakes. Plan is to have it in Pittsburgh next summer.

Enjoy the Corvair!

Ladies and Gentlemen...
The 62 Monza moved under it's own power yesterday! Wooo Hoo!!! Tomorrow (my day off) I'll take it for a proper shake down. Had to chase down a stubborn vacuum leak. Turned out to be the transmission vacuum line. Starts and runs great now! Someday I'll post a list of everything I did. I didn't 'restore' it. I fixed everything it needed trying to keep it as close to original as possible. I'll try to post photos in the next couple of days.

Enjoy the Corvair!

Hi,

I really like your car. I have one like it that I am going to "restore." My car was originally "silver" with a white and a blue cloth interior. Unfortunately, it has had too many "revisions," and I'm not certain about some information. I am just double checking on the body color; I assume that is "silver argent." Is that the case?

Regards,
Joe White

Hi again,

I just took a closer look at your car's body tag and saw that the paint code is 912, which, according to the paint charts is "silver blue." A nice color, but not quite my color (940 - satin silver). The rest is the same: white top (factory) and blue interior. Your car is inspiring me to bigger and better things.

Drove the 62 Monza on Sunday about 30 miles for it's maiden voyage. Went over to Mike Dawson's house and had him give it the once-over to be sure I didn't miss anything. We adjusted the carbs a bit, he put new points in it, set the timing and I tightened one front wheel bearing. It runs and drives beautifully. Mechanically, I still need to replace the front shocks and fix the turn-signal switch. It drives smooth and quiet. feels like a 28,000 mile car!

It looks fantastic Paul!I love the blue interior in the silver blue car! Can't wait to see it next week! Congratulations on getting her on the road!!

I wish my 62 Monza sedan was as nice.
Mine is Ermine White with the red cloth bench seat. The pattern in the panels is awesome! When I got the car, I was going to part it out until I realized what the interior was. I bought it for the A/C set up. It needs body work.
It has an odd set of options. Besides the cloth bench seat, it has the standard 80 HP engine, 4 speed, Air Conditioning, Tinted Glass, and push button radio.
I thought it odd that he bought so many options, but not a bigger engine.

The 80 HP is going into the garage for refreshing and will be temporarily replaced by a 62 102 HP. I had hoped to drive it to Pittsburgh, but not going to happen. Plus, I am still waiting for parts I ordered and paid for in January from an infamous Corvair vendor. I should have known better.

Phew! One week to wait! I think I better start packing!
