Scotty's Automotive in Austin Texas Status?
Posted by: Freeman ()

Just curious to know if anybody in the Austin area knows the status of the vehicles at Scotty's Automotive. My understanding from a few years back was that there was close to 100 vairs behind the fence of the now closed auto garage. This is a current sat view but it could be from an older picture.

I cant imagine having 100 corvairs. I my younger days I accumulated four corvairs and now I know I have too many, what would I do with 100?

I have been to this gent's location. These were all low mileage wrecks from the 60's and 70's that were parked in this lot. The owner was eccentric and not very interested in selling anything when I was there with a friend years ago. They are packed so tight, you cannot get many doors open. The name is pronounced Scotty, but is something like Schady or Schade and is a last name.
It would be a crime for these to go to the crusher or another hoarder in my opinion.

It looks like I need to make a trip to Austin just to see all these Corvairs.
Bill, do you have any contact info for him? Maybe he wants to sell now.
I could end up with 300 Corvairs! Exciting!

Bill Wells was pretty close. His name is William Schkade and the property on Lamar is still in his name. It’s amazing (and scary) how much you can learn about a person through the Appraisal District.

I PM’d you his contact information as found via google.

Maybe you will have better luck than Bill and others had in the past.

I have known Scotty for over 30 years. He is an odd duck. He worked at Capitol Chevy in the early 60’s. Then started his shop. Being a college town, most of the cars are base cars that were given to him. When he was still open , he worked on cars in the parking lot since his shop is a total mess. He lives in a nice house that is spotless. He also has a pasture with another 100+- Corvairs there.

Wow. I feel totally inadequate. Maybe he will adopt me so I can inherit the cars.
