Thank you. Since back surgery tomorrow will stop all work for 2 weeks and only light tasks for 6 weeks, I figured I'd better get the heavy cleaning done. I can now do the light work of hot water and Simple Green decreasing the parts while sitting on a comfortable chair. Donna will help with running for parts and keeping water barrel filled with hot water. My bubbling hot water parts bath will come back in use. Blow dry parts, then parts will wait until I can stand at the blaster to strip paint and rust.

Back surgery is done. Pain in legs and lower back is gone. Only pain is at surgical site. I have already got up and walked around the ward twice. I have a incision drain bag, so I will be spending the night.

Way to go! Glad it seems to have helped. Been told many times I need to have surgery, I've refused. Seen so many friends and family have several surgeries in a short amount of time. And still end up with more problems.

Hope all goes well.

Glad to hear, but.... don't do like me and push back into normal activities too soon. I'm sooo impatient. I have to really discipline myself. The body is older, but the mind doesn't think so!hot smiley

I just learned of a place to have all my tins/loose parts dipped to strip paint and remove rust. It is just across the border in South Carolina. I will get boxes of parts for the Corsa and Greenbrier into the truck and see how much and how long it will take them to do the dip. I am also looking around in Savannah for a powder coating facility. There seems to be a few. I will check with the dip facility to see who they recommend.

This might save me a bunch of time.

Donna and I dug out the stainless sink when acquired from a local pizza joint when they closed their doors. No charge, along with with several other items. Right place, right time.

We now have it cleaned and ready to use to clean the residual oils from the Greenbrier and Corsa parts.

Continuing to collect small parts together on both projects for cleaning.

Completed deflashing of engine heads. Time to work on finishing stripping and painting parts, then on to the engine reseal.

I did note that the RH head had the large coolibg hole by the spark plugs, where the LH head did not. I removed all the flashing around the LH spark plug holes that made a dam around the hole. RH head part number is 3786589. I suspect the LH head is the earlier part number. RH head is first photo.

We went out to pull the top cover to clean and paint it. I was amazed to find all bolts just snug. I also found lock washers under bolt head with a 0.060 or a 0.080 washer under the lock washer. 5 of the flat washers were of the 0.080 thickness. Once we got the hardware off the top cover lifted off without any effort being applied. So did the crankcase vent diffuser. Based on what we saw, we knew gasket clean up of both items would be simple and quick. There was NO gaskets installed. No wonder we had oil all over the top of the engine.

Cleanup and painting will wait a couple days as we have severe weather headed our way. We are under a thunderstorm alert and also a tornado watch until 9 pm.

Finished cleaning engine hardware (excluding shroud hardware). Time to complete cleaning and painting engine parts. Shrouds and their hardware to follow. Keeping a spreadsheet of all parts needing cleaning and painting.

Nice job keeping track of everything - even a spreadsheet!! What are you going to use to paint the shrouding?

Still haven't tackled that parts issue yet. I figured I would work hard on getting basic engine parts cleaned, painted and installed. Reseal engine would be done along setting valves. That way it is ready for running, even without shrouds.

I have 3 sets of shrouds needing painting, so either my labor (lots of it) to clean, prep and paint or I do cleaning and pay someone to prep and powder coat.

I contracted to have all the shrouding, air intake assembly and assorted other parts of my GB blasted for $125, and powder coated for $100. Well worth it.
