The PII might explain some of the reason why this engine doesn't like to idle. That along with incorrect PCV connection, loose carb nuts, loose carb screws, old vacuum hoses, old balance tube hoses and who knows what else I am going to run into.

AL, many replaced the connector hoses for the balance tube with 3/8" brass tubing unions..never worry about it again.

Well, I got all the sheet metal (upper and lower) off the engine. Removed oil cooler and its adapter. Removed oil filler/alternator adapter. This thing needs a reseal of everything.

I noted today that 4 of the 6 AC Delco 3N plugs were not seated. I pulled each one to check threads. Everything looked good until catastrophe hit me. Number 6 plug threads are all flat.

This engine on hold until I decide the next step. Looks like head replacement, since I am not a machinist.

I did a search and found the discussion on Timesert. That is why I commented on it.

Here is the wiring in the aft area brought into the engine bay. What a mess.

Donna has cleaned the top of the engine in prep for reseal of the engine. We still have to clean the engine bottom area.

I did an inventory of all my extra seal and gaskets to see what I had compared to what I need to seal this engine and the Corsa engine. Clark's has the order for the seals & gaskets for the 2 engines and compartments.

We will pick out a set of valve covers, top cover, oil pan and rear cover tonight. These will be cleaned and painted (if needed) in prep for swapping the items off the Greenbrier engine.

And yes I know the fan hub bolts are different size. We will try to match the cover to the current cover. It may have a later style hub. Either way I have a cover off a 102 or a 110 that will work. I have a new bearing that will work in one of them.

Located spare set of valve covers, top cover, oil pan and rear cover last night. Fan hub on Greenbrier has same bolt size as the LM top covers.

Donna will start soaking the parts and shrouds in hot water and Dawn today in prep for full cleaning tomorrow.

Anyone know what the true paint color for the valve covers should be for the Greenbrier? I have seen valve covers painted in several colors.

Thank you, Pedigo.

Valve covers, oil pan and rear cover will be cleaned of dirt, grease and rust/corrosion. Then primed with VHT Light Grey Primer and painted with VHT Nu-Castâ„¢ Iron Or VHT Universal Aluminum. They will look nice.

Shrouds will be done in a flat satin black. Fan will be painted VHT Universal Aluminum. Top cover and oil filler/alternator will be bead blasted and Painted with VHT Clear Coat. VHT Universal Aluminum will be used on them if necessary.

Lots to do with them this week, along with sealing the engine up.

This week saw several items cleaned and painted. Ready to assemble top crankcase cover and the rear cover. We also got all the shroud pieces (tins) pressure washed.

Next week, all the shroud pieces will be cleaned with mineral spirits to remove the last of the grease. Then they will be cleaned with lacquer thinner, prior to sanding, priming and painting.

Next week, we will tape plastic inside the van to protect areas from water spray. We will use pressure washer to clean engine, transaxle and thier compartments.

Not much done. Cleaned and painted carb's cross over throttle rod. Also had oil cooler In the ultrasonic cleaner for 2 days. After plugging a ports and sealing off fins, I bead blasted the end and side plates. Ater blowing out the cooler wire air, water hose was used to rinse out the cooler. A pressure check will be done before installation. I did look though each fin gap while pointed to the sun and found all gaps were clear.

Received body harness from M&H Electric Fabrication. Only took 4 weeks to get it. I wish I placed order with them in July instead of waiting on our vendor.

Working replacing HF 10x17 garage for the Greenbrier, which original had been destroyed by the hurricane. Should be finished tomorrow.

Finally warm enough yesterday (and I had the needed time) to pull the Greenbrier out for its engine cleaning. Engine was soaked with mineral spirits on Friday and pressure washed on Saturday. Came out real clean. Also had rear interior and panels out. That section excluding ceiling, was sprayed down with Simple Green and then pressure washed. Looks better and smells much better. Center left panel center leveler mats, main mat and both rear seats reinstalled.

After putting Greenbrier back in its HF carport, Donna found a choke coil laying where it was cleaned. Something else to deal with.
