Matt:

I had a Maxi 60 amp fuse, but no receptacle. O'Reilly's will have one for me in the morning and I will add the safety devise this weekend.

Picked up Maxi fuse receptacle from O'Reilly's. After looking at it and its wire, I decided that it is overkill for the application. It uses 6 gauge wire. I am ordering a 60 amp Bussman 285-60 circuit breaker to install on the van. Much simpler and neater installation.

I got the replacement coil and a good low oil pressure switch installed today. Picked up a set of wiper blades and a new hose for the washer system.

Headlights are hanging from their wires. Seems when the PO that painted the van maroon, he failed to make sure to use good sealant around the buckets. Sealant was brittle and falling out. We were pulling panels and trim trying to get things connected up and finding more little things to clean up.

Replacement wiper blades installed. Washer hose hose installed, so this system is complete. Body harness is fully connected and clipped into the body. New front grommet installed. (Nice product, SteveinMarietta)

Fuel lines in engine compartment are installed. I used the fan shroud oil dipstick grommet in the front shroud to seal the fuel line. It works perfectly. Actually better than a single hole grommet for that location.

Fit checked air cleaners and found a couple issues. One bail wire would not stay in locked position. Found another one in my spare parts that would. Also that I had installed left cleaner bracket backwards (hmmm No one on the forum caught that mistake). First time I had installed these brackets, so I blame inexperience.

Get closer to fitting battery. Awaiting circuit breaker's arrival. It should be here next Tuesday.

Got sidetracked this weekend. The tarp I had put up to protect the Corsa (and now the Greenbrier) was ripped down by heavy winds this past week. Put up a temporary more durable covering this weekend.

Headlights were electrically checked and only found the right park/turn light bulb was out. Replaced the bulb. Applied new sealant around each bucket and installed each headlight assembly. I made sure each assembly had all the required screw. Several screws were missing when they were removed. Bezels to be installed after some buffing. One road worthy task complete.

Electrical harnesses installations are complete. 60 amp circuit breaker installed.

Time to get to the rear seal and fuel filter, so it can be run.

Headed to go get some parts for the front end right now.

We got a few things done on the Greenbrier done today.

We got a piece of 1/8" Plexiglas cut for a license plate light lens for the engine service door. Just need to secure it to the door this week. Warmer weather needed.

Buffed up the headlight bezels. Went to install them and found PO had used dum dum to seal parking light lens. Now I need to make proper gaskets for the lenses.

Rear seals installed on the shrouds.

Fuel filter installed. Found that I needed to cut back body fuel line by 5 inches to have clearance. Not a problem. Cut it back and made new bubble on line with my new Mastercool flaring tool kit. Wish I had bought 10 years ago. But it has all the adapters for today's cars, if I want to help out friends.

Drained fuel tank. Got 3 1/4 gallons of stanky fuel out of the van. Glad I drained it. First tank will be Marine premium gas to clean up system and not let leftovers hurt the engine.

Set up a 2 gallon fuel system to run the on during tests. Van and Engine now ready for a run. I have asked Rick to come verify a few things before a crank cycle is done. Then onto a gas and ignition on start. This is my first major work experience on a Vair and want to be sure I didn't screw up something and missed it.

Next week, Front brakes. I got the set of brakes from Jerry and they are good for this van. What is on this van may be good, but they have been setting at least 4 years. Hope the MC doesn't spring a leak anytime due to lack of use.

I need some help from someone with knowledge in the automotive electrical field. I have the circuit breaker installed on the Greenbrier. But I am unsure where the 2 alternator wires that use to be on the red junction block go on the circuit breaker.

Do they go on the input terminal with the 10 gage battery wire? Or do they go on the protected terminal with the 10 gage wire that feeds the car?

Schematic is provided.

Thanks, Matt.

Here is a copy of the way the Greenbrier will be wired up tomorrow. Just got to move 2 wires to the protected terminal.

I also added additional info on this schematic on things I found while doing the conversion.

Al,
What's different about "marine" premium gas?

I was looking for some leaded premium gasoline 91 - 93 octane to first run the Greenbrier on. Typically used in boats anymore, i.e. Marine Maine gas. But it looks like that leaded premium is a rare liquid anymore in this area.

So it is 89 leaded gas with 100 Avgas mix in at 1 qt per 2 gallons. Gets the octane up to clean up the cylinders/valves and runs good for first few hundred miles. Also no pings until we get timing set right. We will only run 5 gallons of this mix, then back to unleaded 87 for this 80 hp engine.

Hopefully, we will run the Greenbrier engine late next week. We have to install a small aircraft engine on Monday and test run it first. Then it has to get its 20 minute local flight to release back to local flight training purposes.

Al!! Octane is only for Ping resistance...

Pour 80 unleaded... some Techron or Seafoam and it'll clean everything..

Then if it pings while test driving.. put 89 in and see.

Not a fan of Seafoam, maybe a Lucas or BG product though will do same job. I have 89 lead and the 100 Avgas already, so will start with that. Additive when I start driving around the area.

Early morning project. We got the gaskets for the front park light lenses made. They need some trimming, but should work much better than dum-dum.

I was able to get a quick buff on the headlight bezels and the grille. Reinstalled the bezels. Installed the plastic body panel behind the grille and the grille.

Added oil to engine. Used special tool to drive oil pump for 90 seconds to get oil all around the engine. I connected an ohmmeter to low oil pressure switch to ensure pressure was built up to open up the switch. Installed distributor again. Only took 3 tries to get it back in original location. Loosened up #1 plug, at Rick's request, in preparation to verify timing. Pushed a short section of 5/16 hose onto plug to make it easy to get remove and install.

Battery installed in battery box, but not connected. Battery Tender connected to maintain the charge.

We are ready to check static timing, install plug, install distributor cap/wires and prime the carbs. Connect the battery and I believe we can crank her over, followed by starting the Greenbrier up.

Just finished checking out front brakes. They looked great. Probably 1/2 pad still left. No need to replace anything. Both drums slid off easily except right had a rust ridge at the edge which I sanded off. I adjusted the left brake tighter to the drum. The right I found the adjuster not moving to finger pressure when I tried to adjust it. Removed it and cleaned up the threads. There was some kind of yellow lubricant dried onto the threads. Works fine now.

Will check rear brakes later this week.

More progress on the van.

We glued in some window screen material over the engine inlets inside wall areas. We will reevaluate the glue application on Sunday to see if we believe it will suffice. If it looks weak, we will apply seam sealer around the edges to give it more permanence.

Installed the West Coast Jr mirrors today.

Treated the front floorboard in preparation to laying jute padding.

Of the 11 items initially listed 5 have been completed.
