My wiring project is done as far as bench work. Now I have wait until engine shrouds are installed to finish up this installation. Please note that I also made a new wire to go to the battery cable. The old one just pulled out of the splice when I removed the harness.

Bill G's wiring package is about half done. I will do some more tonight, after I inventory my harness to see all the little items I used to configure the harness.

edit: I know some of you will note that I used a black junction for the battery junction. That is temporary. I used my one and only red junction on Bill G's wiring package. Red junctions are order and headed my way.

Now anyone with and EM or FC having issues with there externally regulated alternator or internally regulated alternator, you might want to consider coming over to this simple harness with an internally regulated alternator. Remove any remnants of generator harness and VR. Wire harness gets 2 ring terminals and VR is tossed away to stop confusing people. Make up the 3 wire harness with 2 junction blocks, which clean up your engine harness and compartment.

If you are in a hurry and need wire gauges/lengths and ring terminal sizes you can always PM me.

And now the list of parts that I used to clean up the conversion that had been done previously. All work was done like it was the initial modification.

I also updated the schematic. I added the red power junction block 2A in upper left. I moved the diode to the blue wire as it is easier to install (solder) the diode on the blue wire out of the car.

Finally warmed enough to touch up the paint on the front and right shrouds after installing the rubber seals. First 2 shrouds that can be installed. Left shroud is with a friend to weld up unneeded holes.

Making a summer/winter panel for the left cooling air box. Getting rid of the bend it up, bend it down sheet metal tab Chevrolet has.

Found an interesting item while removing oil and grease from the spark plug wires. Wires were marked at time of removal for the plug they were removed from. I wanted to make sure that the wires were on the right cap tower connection, so I was following the firing order around while I was cleaning.

I found #2 and #6 wires were swapped. It might explain why it would not run right and stalling when off the choke. Swapped wires and with wrong plugs (1 inch reach) installed and only turned in halfway might explain poor performance. I am hoping this 80 hp engine will now have some power with all that has been done.

Latest issue is boogered up carb bowl gasket sealing flanges on one carb. No stone filters in either carb. Lots of leakage all over carbs. Bowls were full of water staining and mineral debris. Used a bowl from a carb salvaged off a LM I dismantled. It had a non matching 49 jet which I have removed.

A good cleaning was done to both carbs, along with a light bead blast. They are now soaking in Hoppes #9 to ensure paths are clear of all fuel residues.

I did note that both carbs have 51 jets. Is this a good jet for a PG van here in the flatlands of Georgia using premium fuel?

It looks like the carb in the upper picture has the power enrichment and the lower one doesn't. Either style would be ok but it would probably be better if they matched.

What Rex said plus it appears the power valve is stuck in the hole. You can grab it with just the right size sheet metal screw or the smooth end of a drill bit that's just the right size to slip into the hole. (Tip sideways to grab valve)

I see what you mean. I will go find the 61 carb I have and try to use that bowl first.

Well, Donna kept at it until all the gasket was removed. All that was left to do was a quick blast in the glass bead box since it was covered with corrosion. Unit is nice and clean now. Carb cleaner used to clean all passages until they were flowing freely. Power management passage was blocked.

Best this is we got lucky with the jet. The carb has a 51 jet which matches the one that was in the original Carb.

While the carbs are still soaking in Hoppes #9, I got back on the Alternator Kit for BillG. I found that the LM ER Alternator rear support Brace will NOT line up to the mount hole on the IR Alternator. It will require a new support brace.

My intention is to lengthen the brace design but still use a spacer to attach to the alternator. So now Ineed to make one for the Greenbrier, one for BillG's Kit and one for my Monza.

An 8-32 tap will pull out most stuck power valves. Just screw it in by hand and pull.

Donna and I got the power valves out with the tips provided. They were stubborn but we persisted until they relented and came out. Each section is taking its turn in the Hoppes #9 bath.2 down, 2 to go. Small parts still to clean also.

Today was the day to make rear support brackets and spacers for the IR Alternators on my Vairs. It took a while but Rick and I was able to produced setups today. One is for the Greenbrier, one for the Monza and one for BillG's IR Alternator Kit I am making. Just need to paint the braces on the next warm day. Rain projected for tomorrow.

Forgive the engine I used for the mockup. It is a 140 I picked up last Friday. It had been left out in the weather for many years. There is not many good usable parts on it. I figure it would be a good use of it to mock up the alternator rear support brace since it was close to the vise, drill press, acetylene torch and work bench. It saved a lot time not having to run to the Monza or Greenbrier each time to fit check a brace. Plus all the access not having all that body around it.

Finally worked on 2 of the items from the original list on Page 1 of this post.

The Day/Night mirror was polished and installed. Also polished the chrome mount. Installed the Deluxe glove box door.

Work continues on the lower shrouds and cooling boxes. Left side complete with removable Summer/Winter cover. Foam seals are installed. Working on making Summer/Winter cover for right cooling box.

More progress today.

RH head aft close out panel with head temp wire/grommet installed. Muffler mount secured. Front shroud installed and front seal retainer installed. PG modulator tube grommet installed.

Fan shroud plug wire clips trimmed following new application of rubber coating. Ready for installation.

Left upper shroud sanded ad primed following last week's welding. Hopefully pain tomorrow if temp and humidity/rain cooperates.

Did final cleaning on carb parts. One gasket is being stubborn. Will deal with it tomorrow. Soaking in Gum-out carb cleaner tonight.

Looking for a small piece of metal to make RH cooling box Summer/Winter plate from. The crusty old 140 fan shroud might have it on the area by the serial number.
