Dave if you don't want to play with ebay, PM me with what you think is a fair price and I send you PP funds. My car is nicer that many, but I seldom show it. I do drive it a lot during the summer and already have some really bright flash back LED bulbs installed. Considering where the lenses are located, it would really difficult to detect a minor flaw.

Update: I'm about halfway through through the waiting list of names. I'll send out a few more PM's later today.

I was asked again about painting the white gaskets to help hide them. Here are a few photo comparisons. It is certainly simple enough to mist a coat of paint on the gaskets before you install them. I would NOT recommend painting the rear face of the turn signal. If you want extra gaskets sets they are $2 a pair if I am already shipping you a set of lenses. $5 a set if I have to mail them alone. Prices are for deliveries to USA addresses only.

I've had a set of Clear / Fluted with Stone shield on the lense and after 2,000 miles of usage...at least 150 miles on gravel roads... they are like new...

I must have missed this thread and just read through all 5 pages. First, Dave W., you are awesome.
Second, earlier in this thread there was a brief notice of concern about the heat and a test was going to be performed in the AZ heat and the plastic resin you were working with at the time. With your more recent change in materials, have you returned to this concern? You were cautious on the notion that the plastic could get a little soft in the Arizona heat if I recall correctly.
Third, as of late, are you still manually and slowly pouring material into the molds? I ask because have you considered vacuum or pressurized liquid injection into the mold?
Fourth, what material/methods were used back in the day of production of the marker lights, are there differences with what was used back then versus your material/methods? just curious.
Fifth, just a thought here, is there any merit using your techniques and imbedding LED into the plastic itself. Like, no bulbs, the lense and the diodes are one? Was thinking more along the lines of taillights. In that clear plastic with red diodes, for a more contemporary look and feel.
This is/was really super cool and its neat as heck to see someone tackle such a project.

While the heat deflection temperature is much better with this new resin, at over 120F you could begin to bend it. As installed in turn signal housing below the bumper, I can’t imagine this will be an issue, even in Phoenix today at 117F. When I force the lenses above 120F in the curing oven they don’t lose their shape but they can be twisted if you force them.

Not sure the exact techniques you are suggesting but I use 2-piece flexible silicone molds so drawing the resin in under vacuum or injecting it under pressure would not work for me. I vacuum de-gas before I pour and pressure-cast after the molds are filled.

OEM lenses were probably made using multiple cavity aluminum molds and were injected with thermoplastics materials under very high pressure. Not something I can duplicate at home with casting resins.

I’m sure someone could encapsulate LEDs into the lens material but I have no interest in going down that road. I have worked quite a bit with automotive LED retrofits but would much rather keep them separate for lots of reasons.
Here is a video featuring one of my better LED tail light projects but it’s over 10 years old.

J.O.,

I'm not sure why Matt's video showed up in your post above but here is the switchback LED video that you uploaded to youtube.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you like the lenses!
