() Date: May 08, 2016 09:49PM The "early" ones were held on to the rear engine access door with 2 pal nuts. Same way all the Corvair wagons were attached. The studs are part of the light fixtures. Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 08, 2016 09:54PM I think all the parts are sold separately, I have the NOS lenses in the box if you need them, I was told they stoped using the lens as it got hot and melted the cover, But I have installed them and mine has never melted. ![]() ![]() 1960 4dr sedan caveman car 1961 Rampside (Chetside) 1962 Rampside (Barnside) 1962 Short Rampside (Shortside) 1962 Monza 700 Wagon 1963 Monza 900 coup (General Nader) ----------------------------------- Rust Free Lancaster Ca Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 08, 2016 10:00PM Figured it was pal nuts, only thing I could find at the local ace hardware. I didn't see the lenses in the complete kit I ordered. I'll have to call clarks in the AM. Not sure how much more I want to spend I on lic plate bulbs... might just get some LEDS for a trailer plate. Josh '63 Rampside Denver Area Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 08, 2016 10:42PM Dont think that lens is an FC part. My 61 parts book says all except FC and Lakewood. To the best of my Knowledge that is a 1960 only lens. () Date: May 08, 2016 11:06PM My book does not list them as a FC part either, but they do fit perfect, and I was told by a old wise man that the first production FC had the lens then they were discontinued, Another Mystery like the AM/FM rear antenna. ![]() ![]() 1960 4dr sedan caveman car 1961 Rampside (Chetside) 1962 Rampside (Barnside) 1962 Short Rampside (Shortside) 1962 Monza 700 Wagon 1963 Monza 900 coup (General Nader) ----------------------------------- Rust Free Lancaster Ca Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 11, 2016 01:35PM I most always go for originality. However... When Dad acquired the 62 Rampside, he said he didn't like the broken license plate lights, the way they are sticking out. So we installed a service door from a 64 - 65 FC, just like the original one on my 64 Greenbrier. I even used one of the two light bulb fixtures off my 64 Brier to light Dad's plates. Both vehicles are still the same today. Although one guy tried to argue with Dad that his Rampy was not a 62 because of that service door.... we didn't care. Personal preference, we like the later door look much better. And at least the lights cannot get broken off. Just another option that bolts right in. () Date: May 12, 2016 12:56PM I was given a set of the lenses for our Lakewood. Have had not heat problems and it just seems to make it complete rather than a bare bulb. Ed McClintock Cleveland TN Choo Choo Corvairs '61 Lakewood, ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 15, 2016 05:26PM So, I purchased a set of the license plate lenses from Dave for my early 61 GB. I'm pretty convinced they were originally intended for the FC but either not used or discontinued shortly after production began. Possibly a cost saving? They are an absolute perfect fit onto the rubber socket and into the plastic housing - no 'play' at all. Will they melt the plastic housing? Time will tell, but I doubt it. Might the lenses cause the bulb to run too hot? Possibly, and that might be another reason they were not used. Steve Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 15, 2016 05:33PM In that case...I'd love a pair for the '61 Loadside "if" they ever show up again. Perhaps LED bulbs would be the hot ticket item when using the lenses? Re: FC license plate light Posted by:

() Date: May 23, 2016 06:06AM Also received a pair from Motohead. (Thanks Dave!)👠I tend to agree with Dave and Steve on this theory of,perhaps the lenses were intended, but discontinued. The fitment is too perfect for it to just be a coincidence. Besides...the housings seem empty without the lenses. Also, this is where dirt, moisture and filthy roadspray accumulates on a vehicle. Wouldn't one "not" want the bulbs to be so vulnerable to these elements from an engineering standpoint? Perhaps the heat from the bulb in such a small enclosure did effect the plastic? Not sure, but the added lenses do make sense. Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: FC license plate light Posted by:
