Don't know about the road noise. I didn't notice any more noise than before but it's hard to hear any road noise over my fuel pump and magnaflow muffler. It should not have any more noise than a car with urethane bushings which I'm not sure if that is noiser than rubber or not?

Great job i am doing parts of what you did. What can you tell me about the chrysler screw in ball joint - like suggested model # and where did the threaded female piece come from?

The ball joint part number is k772. Chrysler upper ball joint. I buy them and the sleeves from speedway. Don't forget you must also ream the spindles to fit the larger diameter of the chrysler ball joint. It's a 7 degree taper just like corvair, just bigger.

Yeah, still as good as the day I put them in. But sadly not driving my car this summer due to a cam gear failure Hopefully I'll have it rebuilt in time to get a few cruises in before the weather goes to crap around here.

When I looked up this ball joint is looks like they may make a couple? of versions - one maybe 1/4" longer and another 1/2" longer
What did you use? and do you know if they mean just the threaded part (for a thicker steering knuckle or do they mean longer as in overall (resulting in more lowering)
I think you said what you used lowered an additional 1" from what the stock BJoint results in.

The standard length ball joint will lower the car 1 inch up front which is what I used. The extended length ball joints will lower the car even more. It is the tapered shaft that is longer on the extended ones.

Nat - that was a great article and I have taken full advantage of your work. One of the areas that you mentioned that you had a challenge was the hole drill on the front lower control arm. my suggestion see attached photos. grind off the stud side of the ball joint and remove the grease fitting. turn the arm opver and center the hole saw using the grease fitting hole for centering.

I didn't get any more (much more) after getting this done. Feel is silky.

Never a shortage of questions from here - when I bought the Chrysler Ball Joint (that you used) for the lower front I bought the Low Friction version to help with the reducing resistance/friction thing. Did you happen to find a low friction ball joint for the front upper ball joint. I have been exchanging emails with speedway but now suggestions yet.

One thing to note - speedway changed the k772 balljoint sleeves they sell. They used to be 2 3/8" od. Now they're 2 1/4" and I haven't found anyone that carries the larger diameter. I like the drilling through the grease hole idea. With the smaller sleeve and using a 2 1/4" hole saw, a pilot hole may not be necessary if the hole saw fits around the old ball joint snugly. I haven't checked.

I don't know of any supplier of new upper corvair ball joints besides the corvair vendors and they seem to all be the same manufacture with the same terrible rubber boots that fail prematurely. I have custom tubular upper control arms in my car that use Chevelle ball joints. Lots more options there.

If you have already removed your ball joints, you can also tack weld a piece of 1/8 plate over the original hole and drill a pilot hole get the hole saw started.
