FC Camaro wheels
Posted by: ken ()

I bought a Rampside that has chrome wheels on it. I have some 15 x 8 1985 Z28 wheels. I placed a wheel ( no tire ) on the front and the tie rod end touches. Spaces would be required ( not many ) and longer studs. But it looks to me after a tire is installed that it just wouldn't fit ! Has anybody installed these wheels on a FC ?

I have. Modest spacer behind the wheel and modest spacers behind the steering arms (had to reset toe) plus longer studs did the trick. My wheels are 15x7"

There were no 1985 Camaro wheels at 15 x 8". Are yours 15 x 7"? Measure the inside width, where the tire would seat. If it is a 7", people may have already tried that combo. (I have not used it on an FC.) Do the wheels look like this? (attached) If so, those are 7s.

I think a 2056515 will get you awfully close to the original height. 2056015 is also an option but they are a touch smaller I think than the original height and 2057015 is pretty tall and great quality tires are harder to get in that size.

I have only found 1 source I would trust with a complete tire conversion chart of the old sizes through the years to current radial sizing.

most reliable source (Tire Rack) I have found points to the original 7.00R14 being about 25.4 inches overall diameter (OD) Although Coker lists replacement 700-14 being 26.80 OD In the following table I tried using a p metric from MAST (Michelin, BFG, and Uniroyal since they are all from the same company and measuring should be consistent)

7.00R14 25.4 ??
The following are listed as replacement modern sizes:
185R14 25.6 (dont use these on stock wheels, it will explode and you could die)
195/75R14 25.5
205/70R14 25.4
225/60R14 24.7
These would work with a 15 inch rim
205/60R15 24.6
205/65R15 25.5
205/70R15 26.3
215/60R15 25.2
These could work with a 16 inch rim
205/55R16 24.9 (Country's most common tire size!)
205/60R16 25.6
These could work with a 17 inch rim
205/50R17 25.1
215/50R17 25.5
215/55R17 26.3

I am going with a 205/65R15 Michelin Premier A/S in a H rating.
