'65 180 Corsa Convertible

Towed the last of the cars home yesterday that was part of the trade for my '67 Monza last month. This one is definitely a long term keeper. Story is it lived most of its life in New Orleans, PO bought it out of Slidell about two years ago.

For a southern car, it is an absolute anomaly to me that it is probably the most solid Corvair I have owned to date. There is minimal surface rust, absolutely NO rot, and the floors are solid. Even rarer for its condition, I suppose, that it is a convertible.

Spent the last 2+ years on a lift in Baton Rouge . . .

Saw the 'brief' sunlight yesterday (after record setting rainfall / flooding all over Louisiana the past 4 days) . . . My old '67 in the back ground . . .

Loaded up . . . we knew it would rain some, so I considered it a long overdue car wash.

I had already hauled home the rebuilt turbo and NOS grill bar & rear valence . . .

The turbo block is at the shop now, ready for cleaning. PO also sent me home yesterday with the heat shield he had purchased for it . . .

(2) POs back had apparently purchased 'most' of an interior kit from Clarks. I just dug out the 4 door panels and seat covers.

Looking forward to some drop top cruising in this '65!!!

That's a great looking Corsa. My last green 65 Corsa 140 has a home in New Orleans. New owner made sure to buy a home on a hill after his last place was lost in the levee breech

Do you know who has it Jack?

I'm in with several of the NOCE club members. This Corsa came from one of them.
My '67 Monza is going to the president.

Jeff - The yellow '67 I traded in this deal came from Dave there in Magnolia.

Now THAT is a nice car! I love that triple-black with the red pin stripe. Back in my high school days in the mid-70s, I had a chance to buy that same car (same options/etc...) It was a COMPLETE rust bucket. The turbo was locked up and it drove like a complete dog. It was too far gone back in the day to buy it for it think $600.

Beautiful car!

We got after it this week - stripping the Corsa down for paint. I have front seats, dash, glass and rocker trim left to remove.
This way the car is ready when my friend calls for me to bring it down.

Rolled out from its slumber.

Front done - on to rear . . .

Got two of the 'paint' wheels and tires on - I'll get the front changed today.
That convertible top was NOT fun lifting out of the car. Unbolted easily, but lifting it out was a bear . . .
