Correct, but I wonder how much effect the baffles ave in the boat configuration. I did see that his boat has the installed.

The Rear of the cylinders is still encased like normal lower shrouds... just a bigger box that includes the mufflers.

Im coming late to this conversation but I have a question..how well did this design do in the water in a real boating environment? I'm all for Corvair power, but w/o looking very closely to the mechanicals, it not clear to me how it was built. Are any parts still available for either end of the motor for repairs? It is obvious some machine work was done to build the power head.

I could see great use for this type of powerhead in a modern pontoon boat perhaps or other platform type of use.

of course if it couldn't plane the boat the gals per hour may be too high.

I had one 22 years... Worked fine.... 40 mph with a "speed prop"

3-5 gal. per hour on regular ..Mine was 164 ci flat pistons... Turbo / open chamber heads..

Towed two skiers..

Prop / Rudder turned 180 deg... very maneuverable!

If one was nearby I would have to take a look at it. At my age I really don’t have a need for speed, but I will admit the fuel economy you described would make it attractive for the speed given.

I bought a small boat last fall to ready for this year. It had an 80 HP 2 stroke.

I sold the motor and bought a 9.9 4stroke for this next season...i get the fuel economy.

A Corvair motor would be more fun to listen to while trolling...or whatever..

do any powerheads still exist? I can't imagine anyone of them being overused..
