Military Corvair truckI don't think this has been posted before. I brought it up at our meeting tonight and none of our members ever have heard or seen the truck.

You know the link will be dead in the future so here is a pic or two of the TUFI Corvair-powered 4WD prototype military vehicle.

It was displayed during the concours near the concours. I also saw it in 2009 at the Jacksonville Convention. I have never seen the TUFI in person.

Tim - It was the XM-571 Dynatrac at Knoxville and Jacksonville - Not the TUFI.

The last paragraph of the article intrigued me.

"Interestingly, there is a possible Jeep connection in this. In April 1966, the engineering department at Kaiser Jeep presented a sleek 4x4 prototype that also used a Corvair engine, transmission, and axles in a 4x4 configuration."

Another one to find a picture of!

Interesting. Don't think I've seen those either.
Back in the late sixties or early seventies, dad worked on a Corvair powered version of their Twister at the Lockheed Ground Vehicle Systems division.
He was the big proponent of the engine, and used to tell me about it, but I don't remember what were the reasons it was not pursued further. Probably all the usual of reliability, power, gas vs diesel, etc.
Other engines won out.
