Yesterday, I stopped at the DMV for plates. I was SURE they were closed for a training day because there wasn't a single car in the parking lot. Wrong! Walked right in and three of four clerks were just waitin' for me! Bingo!

Installing the plate and standing back - it really struck me: I OWN and EARLY model Corvair! Pretty odd feeling after 46 years in the Corvair hobby. Yeah, I did have that '62 Wagon but they're not like "earlies", right???

Front and rear lights now all in and working, plus I installed the side trim (thanks Motohead) and emblems. Being from the desert and all, the side moldings were half filled with desert dust. Achoo!confused smiley The first side took over an hour, the second side took about 10 minutes. That's the way it goes. Once you know what and how and have the tools all lined up, the second side flies.

Now it's time to tackle the instrument panel and interior.grinning smiley

Craig,
You should do a "hat cam" video while installing that glass!
It would be a great addition to the wealth of knowledge that you continually contribute.

That little 'almosta Monza' is looking quite sharp, no doubt!

Time for another update...

Now working on the interior...

I've swapped out the silver-painted rim 500 instrument panel for a chromed Monza piece (thanks Steve or Moto - whose did I use?). Oddly, this car, originally a 500, already had stainless steed dashboard control knobs rather than the usual black so we were good to go on that score.

While I was at it, I installed a carpet kit I've had around for a while. (Seemed like a pretty good thing to use-up since I don't ever "do" EMs grinning smiley )

The steering wheel and horn ring is a repainted ebay purchase. a monster deal since unpitted horn rings are very hard to find. I happened to have a "gold script" Monza horn button in excellent conditon - a miracle since I wasn't even aware of the "gold script" Monza version until Crawford clued me in. I had the wheel and a spare directional bowl painted when I had the car painted. Both came out well. Outfitted with a new/used directional cable, it's all working like a champ.

A small detail: the one-year '60 turn signal lever. A CCF member back east had a '60 turn signal lever (sorry can't remember who!) and we traded for something I had.(Can't remember what) Wow, three "I do not recalls" in a row. I could run for President! hehe

Finally, I spent a few minutes at the rear of the car. I had a nice, clean "glass jar" style '60 license plate light I swapped in for the painted-over one that was there (prior paint job, not recent one) and I installed the very, very nice hood release seal that I got from Mel (Marvin). This car is going to have quite a few nice touches like that. I can't wait to drive it!

Love the look!
Is it possible to get YOM (year of manufacture) plates for your car?

Would be cool to run vintage style.

It's legal in Washington and I love the look!

Thanks for the kudos guys! Yes it's fun and let's just say it photographs well. (It's not quite as nice as the photos show, but it's still pretty nice)

What's next after the '60 and a couple of Rampsides? Well, there is the '65 Mustang waiting behind door #4 grinning smiley

Let's see if you sharp-eyed guys spot the Corvair content in the Mustang picture...cool smiley
