Spokane, WA landmark...

This poor Corvan has been a fixture in the "skyline" of Spokane, WA, for at least the last 25 years. I've driven by it daily for nearly the last 10 and finally pulled over long enough to take a couple of cell phone pics as it looked especially forlorn in our typical fall haze. It sits on a pedestal, untouched for as long as I've been here, advertising for "Spokane Transfer",the moving and storage company that occupies the historic (old) school building behind it near downtown. I'm assuming it broke down early on and it was cheaper to use it than erect a proper sign for the business. The years haven't been kind to the faded paint (or perhaps the business). The property is for sale now and I'm guessing the van will go with it. Sad, really. Hope it doesn't end up in the local "Pull-N-Save" yard.

I bought all the Corvair stuff stored in the building five or six years ago. Most of it was from a '62 Corvan they had in their fleet. The '62 slid on ice/snow and tipped over so they parted it out and saved the pieces for others in their fleet. The parts only saw four years use, based on the '66 license tag on the rear access door.

I tried to buy the '64 on the post but they said it was promised to a Grandson. That said I bet you're right about its real future.

Thanks for posting a picture!

A whole plate of Bownie points to the person who climbs up there and get the VIN and Cowl tag codes. (Make sure you've got health insureance.)

My sister lives in Spokane and we visit occasionally. If it's still there I'll have to drive by the next time I'm there but it looks as if it will be scrapped in the future. Bummer.

While I was in Rantoul, I'm a few weeks ago, I had to sign the death warrants for 7 airplanes at the museum. They are so rotton the aluminum can be penetrated with your finger in some places. I didn't want to do it but big Air Force says they go to the shredder.thumbs downsad smiley

When I saw the heading, This is the first thing that came to my mind! I was perusing the HAMB website...I just love seeing 'Vintage Shots from days gone by'!
Came accross the old Lincoln Statue Picture a couple months before visiting Spokane last August and wanted to make a point to look for it.
So busy in meetings, no time. Had a lunch with a group Leader and I showed Him the picture........ It was 1 block away! Walked over and took my picture! New buildings on the left but still an old building on Right!
Fun trip me and the Wife, Beautiful weather. Rented a car and drove to Portland and took Her where I grew up just North In Battle Ground, Wa! Wonderful time, saw the same Nieghbors and got invited to go inside our old house by the Owner! He is a Sheriff and was so nice to us! Totally unexpected! [Our old house is the Blue one in last pic!]

It's literally just sitting on dunnage up there.
Doesn't appear as though anything is welded underneath.

So close...

Yet so far away!

I've seen a lot worse when they were on the ground. It looks like one original '64 hubcap on it. I'd love to have the gas cap (looks original with serrated edge) as well as those outside rear views. EddieB Dade City,Fl

Many communities have laws against signage. But a car or van that happens to have lettering painted on it is ok as long as it is on private property, although some communities have laws that require valid tags or some other clause.
