() Date: May 07, 2015 12:11PM My Mothers 63 Monza came New from Taylor Chevrolet in Rochester NY. They used to drill and attach the dealer tag. It was worse when it was mounted crooked. And then they would always rust where the unprotected holes were drilled! Cheeze! Corventure Dave Re: Original Dealer Tags Posted by:

() Date: May 07, 2015 01:37PM Pretty sure the car wears its original paint, guessing the tag is original as well. ![]() Todd Klawitter De Forest WI 1963 Monza Coupe 1965 Monza Convertible 1965 Corsa Turbo (sold) 1972 Olds 442 Convertible [www.capitalcitycorvairs.com] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Original Dealer Tags Posted by:

() Date: May 07, 2015 04:39PM I still have the one that was on my 60. It came from Guyan Chevrolet in Ashland, KY. It was drilled on of course and looked nasty. So I welded up the holes, but if I could have cleaned it up, I considered keeping it on the car. Lee Adkins A Cave Man car 1960 2dr Coupe with pg Color Tasco Turq. With Ermine white top. () Date: May 07, 2015 09:20PM The actual factory lacquer was never available for painting in the aftermarket. The original lacquer was an acrylic reflow type. This requires high temperature to flow the lacquer to get the gloss without sanding and buffing like aftermarket lacquer paint (i.e. 10 coats of hand rubbed finish, etc.). The bodies were painted and baked before any soft stuff (wiring, upholstery) was installed. Even shops that advertised "Baked Finishes" did not have ovens with temperature high enough for reflow paint. If they did, all their jobs would have required removing upholstery, etc. I have a small collection of dealer emblems I removed during my stint in the collision repair business. No decals though, too hard to remove in good shape. Note: "Factory Pack" lacquer was regular aftermarket lacquer that was put in the can at the paint factory, then shipped to a local jobber. The other method was mixed from toners in your local auto paint store (jobber). Frank DuVal Fredericksburg, VA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/07/2015 09:23PM by Frank DuVal. Seems like it - Jason is referencing the "dealer tags" / dealer business name that dealers put on new cars - in the 60's... -- for advertising their dealership Not sure what all is used now - some dealers use decals... On new cars (and used?) in CA, a lot of dealers use plastic license plate frames with the dealer name on them - like the pot metal license plate frame in my pic above... Edited 1 time(s). () Date: May 16, 2015 04:11PM From my experience I usually see the metal bolted-on style emblems on cars from other states other than California. So far, I have never seen a drilled and bolted on dealership advertisement from a California dealer on any Corvair. However, I do see lots of dealer installed license plate frames out here. The metal type with a Chevrolet logo are very collectible. [www.californiacorvairparts.com] CALIFORNIA CORVAIR PARTS Attachments: ![]() Re: Original Dealer Tags Posted by:
