Two spoke rosewood style steering wheel
Posted by: Al ()

Hi.

I am looking to use a plastic rosewood style two spoke steering wheel and hub from a 65 vair non tele column.
Any idea if it will work on a 66 chev Belair. Are the column shafts the same.
Thanks.

The wheel would work. The hub would not as the Bel Air and fullsize cars would use the more common large spline. Standard 64-66 Corvairs use a small spline size.

The Corvair/Chevelle two spoke was walnut, not rosewood.

The steering wheel is reproduced, two varieties. One with stainless trim outer ring, one without.

Chevy vendors have center hub for 56, Seth Emerson sells the 64-66 hub for Corvair.

Original Corvair two spoke walnut units WITH the hub in good condition are hard to find.

I don't think it will work on your Bel Air. The 64-6 Corvair had a unique, small spline steering shaft. If I'm not mistaken, the Bel Air has the common, larger spline steering shaft.

Al - The 64-66 Chevelle hub, available in Repro from Ecklers CHevelle/Corvette parts may fit the column in your Bel Air. It has the right spline and the correct 6-bolt pattern for the two-spoke wheel. I can't testify about the turn cancelling cam, because, prior to 1967, each GM model used a "slightly" different cam and switch mechanism. It might just drop on and work. There are lots of different steering wheels that will bolt onto that 6-bolt GM hub.

Also the Corvair wheel was slightly smaller in diameter than the Chevelle wheel.
