New Project. Dummy fuel pump with pressure Gauge.
Posted by: davemotohead ()

I know this has been done before but could not a find a pic of it? I have about 100 old fuel pumps laying around, since I never use a mechanical pump thought I would make by-pass units out of the old mechanical pumps with a fuel pressure gauge in the top,Might incorporate a regulator also, smoking smiley

Cool. Are you using steel plates between the halves or how are you making sure it stays sealed up?

Looks great. I am trying to do the same but not sure how to connect the gauge internally in the the pump housing..? Any pointers appreciated. I noted in another posting that one guy used the 'dummy plate' but he never responded when asked as to how he was able to do that....

Thanks,

Kerry

Don't know if this has been posted before (probably) but it might be a starting point..? Looks like the center section of a Corvair fuel pump has been gutted..

I gave up trying to plumb it as there is not enough room in a gutted center section to accommodate the fittings needed,I am having my buddy CNC a new center section with all the necessary Attachments to install the gauge and bypass,my prototype should be done tomorrow,After I test it I will have a bunch made and assemble them my self for sale and will post a final price,,fun project.smoking smiley

I'd be interested however in contemplation of this project I already have the Inglese gauge that was shown in an earlier posting (pictured below) and also have the chromed fuel pump cover. Any chance I can salvage what I've spent??

The pic of the pump with the copper tubing in it is on my car. Works great and I have had no leaks or issues at all.

I know Dave will come up with something awesome. Can't wait to see it!

Actually I Have a working finished Unit that I am installing on my car and testing,I have gotten a Price for the CNC parts I need and shopping for bulk liquid filled gauges,BUT,like anything ,with the cost of the parts,my labor to assemble, plus pressure testing each one to make sure there are no leaks we are talking around $100 ea or more, Will "Frugal" Corvair Guys Buy them if I make them, maybe a few,but most probably not.eye rolling smiley

Ted Who?

Oh........you mean j3m's boyfriend? Or business partner?

Sorry, but you just can't help but "feel the love" when j3m goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about him.

Remember that any Corvair without Ted Browns EFI system in just a POS.
