The list of things left to do is getting kind of short! I think I'm going to be
starting it sometime this week! Its kind of nice to have "easy" things left to do like attach the axles, bleed the hydraulic clutch, put the wheels on and get
the car off the jack stands, ect. I spent all day Saturday fixing the inevitable fuel leaks that seem to come with putting the fuel system back together. I guess I'm getting better at it though- it seemed like it was three
days the first time through to get the leaks to stop.

Right on Matt, Tom! I sure as heck cant wait to see how this fan performs either!. The comparisons though are going to be a little weird... when I was
working on making my new "airflow" pulley I had both my "old" pulley that
was on the car during my stock fan tests, and the one that I replaced it with
as the other one was seriously worn. When I had both pulleys side by side, it
became clear that the old pulley used in the tests had the belt .200" deeper
into the pulley than the replacement pulley that I bought in 2014. The gist of it is, the .200" deeper into the groove translates to a pulley that is effectively .400" smaller diameter, and changes the pulley ratio to something like 1.7:1... It easily explained the pressures that I measured on my engine
when I initially put it back together.... I put the stock fan on to check to see whether they would agree with the 2012 tests and they didn't. The numbers
were consistent with a stock 140, but not consistent with a 63 Turbo with a 61-63 fan, but when the Mag fan is speeded up with a 1.711 pulley ratio, then the pressures are the same as are seen in the stock 63 Turbo test. I wrote up
something that explains this a bit more clearly, I will try and post it if possible.

So maybe the idea is to machine a cool billet fan hub to overclock the magnesium fan?

Not really... for a lot of reasons. One is that although the Mag fan does "act"
like the 61-63 fan does pressure wise when sped up like that, it apparently is causing a lot of excessive belt slippage, or not flowing as much as the pressure would suggest, because the fan rpm is increased 8%, but is only flowing 3% more, when it should be flowing 8% more!. I noticed a LOT of spitting back and pulsing with the Mag fan both in my stock fan tests and my bench tests under certain conditions, and when I was doing hot engine tests with the stock fan, I could tighten the heck out of the fan belt (as in guitar string tight) and not change the pressure read at all, so this would seem to suggest that the Mag fan just isn't flowing well enough if the resistance is high enough relative to the fan rpm. My fan should not have those kind of problems, and it will be interesting to see if it does cool better even if it is down a bit on output.

Kevin, the suspense is KILLING us!
You are now on the "easy list".
Does that imply it is the "Short List" also?
Think you will get it done by this Saturday?

Mel- I would sure as heck like to make it for that, but I don't think
it would be good for me to rush this to get up there. Realistically,
I'm probably going to be ready to start it Saturday, and then an easy
break in. My way of breaking a car takes about a week (20-30 miles a day)
mostly so I can catch bugs that I'm sure will come up. After that, I'm usually
confident that I can take it on a long trip and not have anything bad
happen.

Update: I'm having a hard time believing it right now, but I just got done RUNNING the car... the cam seems to have broke in nicely, the engine runs and
sounds absolutely sweet like I've not heard my car run in years!! the valve train is soo quiet, the engine runs super smooth and its almost scarey how
fast the thing wants to rev. In my excitement to get the car back on the ground and started, I neglected to hook up the manometer, so no fan data yet,
but I got to tell all of you... that fan sounds so FREAKING COOL!! and is
no louder than the mag fan, at least to 2500 rpm. When I'm ready to do fan testing, I will post the data in the Fan thread.

Thanks Troy!! I'm not sure when the fan will ready for sale yet... as I explained in my fan post, there's still some testing left to be done and it
looks like I'm probably going to have to wait until fall for that, as it is getting too hot out to do good consistent tests, and some of these tests would be better done by my other tester. I don't know for sure when those will happen. In the mean time, feel free to pm me to get your name on the list for
purchase when they become available... I'm going to do my darnedest to make this happen but there's still a lot of steps that need to take place before
the final production version is ready for sale. Ideally, after my other tester
is finished with his tests, I can re-size the fan, and have a few pre-production prototypes made available for sale to people that will be willing to do the kinds of tests that are going to be hard for me to do.
