Thanks gents. Just got word from Clarks that my new front brake lines, dual master cylinder kit, and tie rods on are their way!. After months of cutting, welding, grinding, and sanding filler, this is getting exciting again!

Slowly making progress. Got all the front suspension parts cleaned and painted this week, and today I pressed the new bearing races into the hubs that have been modified for a disc brake setup. Still waiting on coil springs from Clarks. Supposed to be here the end of next week.

This afternoon I able to remove the drag link and the idler arm from the car. I have a nice new idler arm to replace the old one, as well as two new tie assemblies.

I also repaired the first of the front suspension mounting points. The two rear and two middle crossmember bolts broke when I was dropping the suspension...bummer. Today, I cut of the rear passenger side "cage). The I broke the cage nut loose, welded a new cage nut to the cage, then welded the cage back onto the car's frame rail. Three more to go. What a pain in the a$$...

Hit a milestone today. Got the front suspension all back together and fitted the rotors and calipers. Note that the tie rod clamps are still loose...that's why they are pointing all over the place. And, forgive the mess. I was too excited to clean up for the pic.

That sure looks good. Where's the mess? My shop looks worse than that after I clean up.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to get it back in the car, but I still have to replace the old cage nuts, change the rusty front brake lines, clean up under the car and install the gas tank...it never ends...

Looks great. What is the skinny on the disc brakes conversion? Parts used?

Thanks,

The disc brake conversion use Scarebird backet, S-10 rotors, and S-10 calipers/pads. The hubs are the original Corvair ones turned down to accept the rotors. If you search the forum, there are quite a few threads about it. Everything bolted up very easily.

I am glad to hear that all the disc brake conversion parts went together. I am doing a 4-wheel conversion on my 66. Once it is together, I will announce whether it all worked! I used 87 S-10 (4WD) front and rear calipers and rotors. I used Dave Clemmons front brackets and custom hoses and Leveque rear brackets and custom hoses. Pads TBD. Thanks to Seth for all his knowledge to put it together. Someday I will graduate to the Wilwwod setup!

Looks good on the bench, eager to see it in your car!

I started to scrounge parts for the disc brake setup and then 2ragtops offered his setup for sale and I snapped it up. was easier that way.

I can't wait to get everything back in the car. This afternoon I got the old cage nuts/broken bolts out and put the new ones in. What a pain the a$$ that was. I also decided that I will replace both front bake lines and the speedo cable while I have the suspension and gas tank out. In preparation for putting everything back together, I cleaned up the whole underneath and undercoated the area this afternoon. No pics though...too dark in the garage. Hopefully I can get back to it soon, but the weather is supposed to take a dump tonight and snow is on the way...sad smiley

Well, we had 16 inches of snow at my house this past week, so its been slow going on the project car. The temp got over 40 degrees today so I decided to do something on the car to keep me going. I installed the left and right front hard brake lines. I used the Clark's pre-bent lines. Really easy to install. The worst part was getting all the grommets back in, especially the one under the dash. Thankfully the interior is out so I room to work. Hopefully it will warm up so I can get the gas tank back in and then the rebuilt suspension. Getting closer...

I welded the cages back in over the cage nuts that I changed out and put the tank banck in. I did lube up the grommet on the fender, but when I put the tank in with the filler neck attached, it popped the grommet out of the fender. I was able to push it over the filler neck and into place int the opening with a small hammer handle. No big deal

I would not have wanted to have put the gas tank back in with the suspension in place....not so skinny guy in a small place!grinning smiley

Its supposed to warm up over the weekend, so I plan to put the suspension and new speedo cable in
