Re: replacement metal LM Tail light sockets. NAPA

From a post I copied:

LM Corvair sockets

Go to your NAPA store and get the all metal sockets they sell. The part
number for the tail light is LS6469 and the back up light socket is LS6465.
These are much better than the originals because they ground better.

Hey guys this is a great thread! I used the info to find my headlights were not properly grounded as well as my turn signal sockets were loose and not grounding properly either!! Who woulda thunk old school technology would be so finicky!

Again thanks this thread helped alot!!

What a great thread!

I noticed tonight after getting home from Baton Rouge and 'having' to look over the Corvair some more, that when I turned on the lights the right side circuit for the blinkers stopped all together. And the LR didn't blink, and was sorta dim tail light too.

Moved the light sockets a tad and problem solved. Tail light brightened up some and blinked when switch thrown.

The only other thing I noticed is that the RR tail light is bright all the time - and a new socket was spliced in sometime ago. I am pretty sure the wires are just backwards. That light does not light up when I hit the brakes either, even with lights off. I doubt the blinker works either since when it's already bright you cannot really tell (lights on).

Maybe since the brake light doesn't come on either that filament is just popped. I would expect it to toggle the dimmer filament even if hooked up backwards.

I'll investigate some more in the morning.

Problem solved. Someone had jammed a single filament bulb in place.

The tail light is now the same brightness as the driver's side. The blinker still didn't work, but messing with the bulb got it to light up. Just need to clean up the connection in the socket I suppose.

Headlights on but rear lights stay off

I'm bringing this thread back because I need the help. There is a lot of good information here, but I still can't find my problem. The rear lights seem to be grounded--I mean, my blinkers work fine--but they don't come on when I pull the switch or hit the brakes. Even the license light is out. This is probably related to the gauge light issues that I still have (I have to leave the gauges unplugged or they pop the fuse) but I just can't work it out. Where do I look next?

Could be you have a bad headlight switch. Time to pull it out and check switch with a ohm meter. Then ohm check the brown wire from switch to the brown wire in rear harness at tail light socket. A good ohm meter check can prove out your system before you put power on it. Use wiring diagram in manual to trace wire from tail lights to headlight switch. It will help in understanding where to connect the meter and where it goes through connectors.
