() Date: September 13, 2019 02:33PM I've had some members PM me about the parts I used from my post above. Here is the list: Installed new thermostat bellows on driver side damper - Clarks #C50RM Fixed the transmission shaft oil leak by installing new seal - Clarks #C497 ('66 4 speed) Replaced the fan pulley bearing - Clarks #C7740 For info on the next 5 line items, click the following White Paper link:- White Paper Installed a 36-1 trigger wheel on the harmonic balancer - http://trigger-wheels.com/ Installed a VR sensor to track the trigger wheel position - http://trigger-wheels.com/ Installed a Ford EDIS-6 coil pack - ACCEL #140035 Installed a 2002 Ford Mustang EDIS-6 ignition module - http://trigger-wheels.com/ Installed a Megajolt/E MK2 ignition controller - AutoSportLabs MegaJolt Installed a Holley 12-804 fuel pressure regulator -Summit Racing Holley 12-804 Installed a nylon pitman arm bushing - Clarks #C178N Replaced the stock speedo with a digital GPS speedometer - Speedo GPS Receiver - Digital Speedometer Replaced the stock tack with a digital tackometer -Digital Tachometer Replaced the stock clock with a Dakota Digital CHT gauge - Cylinder Head Temp Guage - Sensor Cable Extension Replaced the stock vacuum/pressure gauge with a VDO boost gauge VDO Vacuum / Boost Gauge Replaced the stock CHT gauge with an Innovate AFR gauge Innovate AFR Gauge Changed oil to Brad Penn semi-synthetic 10W-30 Installed NGK Iridium spark plugs - NGK BR6HIX (3419) For the gauges, you will also need: [www.perfvair.com] from Performance Corvair. These adaptors allow you to mount 2 1/16" gauges and 3 3/8" gauges in the space behind the dash panel where the stock gauges are mounted. This will still need some fabrication and a complete rewiring. I kept the gas gauge since I couldn't find a 3rd party replacement. Replacing the stock gauges is not easy. On a scale from 0 (easy) to 10 (difficult) I'd rate this project a 9. Alec Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/13/2019 02:38PM by AlecCarlson. Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? () Date: September 17, 2019 02:58PM Removed PG pan and inserted shift cable into transmission, ensuring proper engagement with mechanism. Installed pan with new gasket. Clipped cable in several places along tunnel to prevent slap. Spliced into secondary power wire into electric pump power wire. Checked wire for proper connection to circuit. Environmentally sealed splice. Routed new power wire for momentary switch for electric fuel pump to instrument panel area. Reinstalled heater/defroster toe panel duct. Probably won't finish up tasks before we leave for Maggie Valley. So it is expected the More Door will be staying home. Still have steering column and box, instrument panel and wiring for clock and momentary switch as major items to complete. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? () Date: September 18, 2019 03:51PM Installed cable to PG selector and installed selector to instrument panel. Positioned panel into dash and hooked up electrical connectors. Upper panel screws installed. Still have to finish panel installation, clock wiring to fuse box, fuel pump momentary switch installation & wiring, install steering wheel & horn, install tunnel panels, service PG transmission, check new function of fuel pump, test transmission shifting before it is ready for the road. MAYBE, I can get it finished next week, but my 68 Camaro is getting a headliner/sail panels installed, grill and front bumper installed, Dynamat installed in doors, floor, rear seat area and rear side quarters next week also. () Date: September 18, 2019 04:57PM Yes it is. I haven't driven it since May when it developed a tranny leak in the new shift cable I installed in January with the engine rework. Whole summer lost to working on this car (brakes, steering box/column. axle bearings and shifter cable), running new 220 wire to my garage and building a work shed for my Camaro. But it will be safe and reliable for Donna to drive it when I finish this batch of maintenance. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: September 22, 2019 02:42AM I forgot to mention that I installed the steering column and shaft on Wednesday . Upper & lower bearings were cleaned and greased. Reinstalled safety bracket on toe panel around column. Also installed rebuilt 63 steering gearbox and Flame River collapsible intermediate shaft. While still under car, I moved front wheels to check steering. It locked up very quickly. Reversed direction and it did it again. Looking at gearbox, I discovered the hardware securing Flame River coupling to the their intermediate shaft was contacting the subframe. To clear the interference, I had to install 1/8" shims under the gearbox 3 mount points and trim off the threaded fastener protruding out of the coupling. Now steering works smoothly and adequate clearance for the coupling to frame. I suspect this interference was the result of a 63 gearbox on a 66 car that was not considered in the design process. There is no damage on the frame that positions the top of the frame closer to the coupling. I also fixed the left wheelwell trim that was damaged by the broke tire belts. New screws installed replacing the rusty ones. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: September 24, 2019 04:32PM Didn't get to work on it long today. I got the instrument panel fully installed. Steering column is assembled and ready for wheel. Heat diverter and toe panel installed. Changed bulb to LED in Parking Brake warning light and installed it. Repaired right vent window handle as it was very sloppy in its post. Installed left rear tire/wheel as it was removed for access to install shift cable in Powerglide. Tomorrow the following is planned. Complete left vent window handle repair, finish clock wiring to fuse box, install fuel pump momentary switch & wiring, install steering wheel & horn, install tunnel panels, service PG transmission, check new function of fuel pump, test transmission shifting. Remove Vair from jack stands and take a drive. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: September 24, 2019 05:18PM Yes. Rick is so far away from his More Door being ready for Maggie Valley. He is doing front disc brakes, new brake lines, dual master cylinder and fixing a PG pan leak and changing out the shifter cable. He probably won't have his Vair ready. I have offered my More Door to him to use to drive up to Maggie Valley. I have to tow the RV, so having a knowledgeable driver in the seat for first long trip would be beneficial. He has accepted, but will still work his Vair to see how close he can get it. I will help him next week after ours is on the road. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? () Date: September 25, 2019 05:01PM Today, we completed left vent window handle repair, finished clock wiring to fuse box, installed fuel pump momentary switch & wiring, install steering wheel & horn ring, installed tunnel panels. Installed a right hand exterior mirror. Serviced PG transmission with 3 quarts of Dexron. Checked new momentary switch function to fill carb bowls and it is good. Started engine and it started quickly. Full carb bowls is important to quick starting, of course everyone knows that. Tested transmission shifting and found it satisfactory. All systems are functioning properly. Removed Vair from jack stands. Starting to load trunk with items for Maggie Valley trip. Oh yes, Back in May, I wired in a multi-12 volt receptacle unit to power electronics and it is on the IGN controlled circuit. Mainly for phone charging, GPS, and an iPod & its speaker. An Escort detector is also in the car for warning alerts. This receptacle will also be needed for the portable a/c unit Rick has. I need to add some more transmission fluid (3 quarts) due to pan removal and leaking shift cable. Then I can take it out for a drive. Maybe tomorrow. () Date: September 25, 2019 05:53PM Thanks, Mel. A couple more touch up items is all I am planning. It should be a reliable Vair with all that has been done. I have to get Camaro and Greenbrier done now. Al Georgia Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: September 26, 2019 03:23PM We serviced the Powerglide with 3 quarts and took her for a drive. Only went about 3 miles but all was good with powertrain. Parked her and gave her a bathe and a wax job. Donna polished the chrome and cleaned the windows. Found my 12 volt plug-in system would not take a load. Changed out the unit and still same problem, Found my ground had developed a little rust. It was the screw holding the defroster duct. Limited metal there, so I moved ground terminal/wire to a toe panel screw. That solved the problem. Set up the dash and 12 volt plug ins so it is ready for added electronics. Right now a HUD, an Escort detector, and iPod & speaker and a phone for GPS will be used on it. All low demand items. Rick's A/C unit will use the car's cigarette lighter. Touched up a little red paint on the wheel that got scraped off due to wrong trim ring trying to be installed by tire company. They were going to make it fit, but I had to finally tell them to stop, so I could get with vendor to determine problem (wrong trim ring for the wheel). Also touched up grill bar paint. Now to setup a few parts to have in the car, just in case. Won't be many, due to all the work that has been done to it. Toolbox already there.
