Went to rebuild the steering box in my new corsa. It felt ok but I like to be sure. It turned out to be one of the worst I had seen. The relative tightness must have come from the congealed rust/grease mix in it.

Gears were totally unusable and were down to pointy nubs of rust. So I found another box and overhauled it. Much better now.

Since the column was out, I cleaned and repainted it. Given that it was out of the way, it was the perfect time to install one of Craig's awesome fuse boxes.

Car also got a new pair of correct mirrors to replace the gross cheapy square head plastic ones it had. It is coming together to be a really nice driver now.

Today bumpers. outside rear view mirrors, door check/stops, back up light housings, and the rear engine access hatch cover got installed.
While I was at it I went ahead and put the wheel covers on too.

The back up lights are not yet wired up, I will likely source a new set of these lights and wire them when they get swapped out. For now they are simply filling the holes. The grille below the rear bumper still needs installed.

I am waiting on a pair of replacement tail light housings and lenses, and need to source the reflective lenses for the rear doors.

Up front, I am waiting on a Windshield Washer nozzle and need to clean up the headlight buckets and air vent flapper, clean up the grille and headlight trim then install them.

Once that is done there are still some weatherstrips and interior panels that need attending to. The list goes on but progress is being made.

I pulled the driver's side panel off to maintenance the window mechanism so I didn't have to use two hands to roll the window up or down. eye rolling smiley I just assumed that these interior panels were replacements from Clark's or another manufacturer. On the back of the panel there is a # 4496901 and of course LFT and also 23 NOV 1. So is this an original factory panel or a replacement? Not that I'm worried about that, but just wondering.

I was expecting to find a plastic sheet between the interior panel and the metal structure of the door. But it was a brown paper that looks like a tar coating on the inner side. There's a green stripe across the brown color side of the paper. I'll be replacing the tar paper with a custom cut plastic trash bag as I did when I put my Edsels door panels back together, back in the day. grinning smiley

Also, I noticed that the tar paper has, what looks to be, factory cut notches around where the panel fasteners go.

I also found these foam pads where I expected to find springs behind the door handle and the window crank. And I see that on Clark's catalog there are foam washers to replace these so I guess they're original?

Got the dormant LW loaded on the trailer to head to Richard Payne's ( ratt643 ) for its heart transplant.

When I bought the LW it came with the discected 80hp original block and parts. It is now a 102, .030 over so we have the correct oil fill, etc.

Been a good while in the process. Can't wait to get it back on the road...

Made a little more progress yesterday. Still need to install the rear 1/4 windows and get a new windshield gasket in place.
The headlight buckets need gone through and I have sourced a pair already done which makes things much easier for me.
The NOS Windshield Washer nozzle got a rubber gasket made and it was installed using a nylon nut so hopefully it won't suffer the fate of many other nozzles.
Other than that, I will need to be sure all the lights function as the should, reinstall a couple other items and the van should be ready to bring home.
This of course may still take a while but only time will tell.

One more photo.

I am now searching for a very nice or NOS Chevrolet script for the rear door.
At the moment, I have two that need re-chromed and will go that route if needed.

I was also a bit surprised I was able to get the personalized tags I got. Yes they are real.grinning smiley
