I spent a rainy Saturday stripping paint from the door jamb areas of the Greenbrier. I am probably about 95% done with the stripping process at this point.
Once the glass is removed, I can strip the areas around them. Once that is done, hopefully it will go in for some rust repairs, bondo work as needed then paint.

Today after work, I uncovered my Blue 1965 Monza coupe and assembled the 10'X20" Tent cover and placed it over the car so maybe I can make some progress on it next week while on vacation. It will be a "Staycation" so I can work on the car.
IF the weather cooperates and motivation shows up, I hope to get a lot done.

I rebuilt the carbs (well took apart and cleaned mostly, its only been 12 years since I last rebuilt them) and got my 65 Sedan out for the first time in 2 years. Fresh gas and it seems to be running okay, although not perfect. Will put some miles on it and try to get it dialed back in now that the warm weather is here.

I like the stance on your convertible, what size rims/tires are you running? how did you lower it? any issues, tire rubbing?

I need to update my build thread on that car now that I have some miles on it. Lots of rubbing issues. I will probably get another set of front springs to raise the front back up about 1/2" to help some. Inner fenders are rolled and clearanced to help.

Wheels are 17 x 8; 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear

I borrowed my brothers Eastwood fender roller like you have shown but it wouldn’t do much with the thick Corvair sheet metal or maybe I was using it wrong? Anyway I thought I had a picture but can’t find it but I ended up slicing notches in the inner fender lips and rolling them with a sledge hammer. Someday might weld the notches back together if I think of it.

For what seems to be the first time in forever, it looks as though come Tuesday the roads will be dry so I can take the car to the audio shop for the replacement of the radio. One more thing done. But I won't drive it on wet roads. Passed on a car show today down in the People's Republic of Eugene for just that reason.

My first day of vacation was wasted on stuff around the house.
Today, I managed to remove upper and lower front control arms that I had previously stripped and painted a couple years ago and repainted them.

Once the paint was dry, I reinstalled them along with front springs and spindles.

I installed the rebuilt steering box and telescopic column too.

Maybe tomorrow will be more productive, maybe a front dash pad, under dash wire harness, speedometer cable, then the clutch and brake pedal assembly along with pulleys and such. I only hope I can remember how it all came apart.

IF all else fails, I'll refer to the assembly manual I probably have somewhere.

30-mile round trip to the audio store and back. New radio installed and it looks right and sounds Great! Total miles since rebuild completed - 398. Still trying to chase down a proper mirror.

Well, we drilled and tapped a stripped valve cover bolt. I installed a new temp sensor. I finally put the rear engine shrouds on, that attach to the heater hoses, so now I have heat for the summer!eye rolling smiley

Also removed the exhaust to get to the right side valves to adjust them- I have a tick tick tick.

Adjusted the emergency brake cable- found out it was the plastic guide under the toe tunnel, so replaced that. Need to finish adjusting the valves and back it out to adjust the newly rebuilt brakes. Need to put the rear engine seal on- it's a 64 Monza convertible btw. This will be the first time it has had a rear seal since I owned it- bought it when I was 12, many years ago! I never knew it was supposed to and how it went on, so pictures of 64 rear seals would be appreciated!

Now I need to work on the turn signals and brake lights! Hopefully, I can get this baby back to life!

Yesterday, May 18th: Blue '65 Monza coupe.

Has to pull the upper part of the telescopic column in order to re-nstall the pedal assembly and parking brake handle. Got that done.
Went on to install a nicer dash pad, a new reproduction Cora under dash harness along with a used CORSA dash that also got a reproduction harness and a quartz clock. Swapped out the Monza glovebox and surround with a used CORSA version then the defrost splitter, glovebox liner, ash tray, and reproduction speedometer cable.

Today:

Cleaned up the engine compartment some but not to much and did a quickie rattle can job on parts of it.
Installed the heater assembly I rebuilt a couple years ago along with new heater hoses and a new rear reproduction wiring harness.

I dragged the transmission and differential out from under a shelf where it had been sitting since it was cleaned and painted a couple years ago.
The transmission got a new shifter seal, end and side cover gaskets.

While removing the side cover bolts, the first one snapped off with virtually no pressure applied to it so I got to remove the part that stayed in the case.
The gear oil had already been drained so I stuffed a few red rags in it to catch any debris that might find its way inside. I was fortunate that the threads on the broken bolt were long enough to grip with a small pair of vise grips and thread it into the case side of the hole. I managed to get it out without incident but it took a good fifteen minutes to get it done without any drilling needed.

The differential got a new side cover gasket and axle seals, input shaft seal and a new split ring which fit nice and snug. I put a new gasket between the transmission and differential but left the top cover gasket for later after it has been installed on the engine (Maybe tomorrow?). I want to install a new back up light switch before filling the transaxle. It went back under the bench for now.

I also cleaned the long plastic heater tube that goes under the car. I noted that the area where the hole is for the vent at the rear seat is sagging and would be the source for a very large air leak so that will need some attention prior to installation. I did cover the ends of all the new heater hoses to keep critters from finding their way in since the car is sitting outside.

Tomorrow with some motivation, I plan on working on front and rear crankshaft seals on the engine. It already has Viton push rod and oil cooler seals.
Valve cover gaskets will wait until the powerpack in installed in the car.
I'll install a new Pilot Bushing, clutch disc, and throw out bearing but leave the pressure plate and flywheel as they are unless I discover something unexpected there.

Once the powerpack is in the car, I'll hang the trailing arms, springs, shocks,rebuilt rear hubs, halfshafts etc. Once all that is done I'll concentrate on the brakes but that will be another day since I need to go back to the Corvair Ranch and pay some attention to the Greenbrier on Saturday.

Took Gem out for it's for really new rear brakes, new T/S switch, and A/C charge test drive.

Brakes 100%! T/S switch still hinky on LH but all new parts so leaving alone...hold with finger.

At highway speed A/C got down to 47.9 degrees...not as cold as some but best ever for Gem.

Worked a little on the '64 Greenbrier Deluxe today.

Removed all "operating windows" in preparation for painting the van.
Still need to remove all the "Fixed" glass (Windshield, Rear 1/4's and Rear Doors)

It took longer than I anticipated but I also suspect that putting it back together will take at least twice the time.
A member here did advise me that the fuzzies need installed BEFORE the glass goes back in so I will defer to their lesson learned the hard way. Thanksthumbs up
