() Date: March 26, 2022 01:35PM Did an assembly line worker put that glob of sealer caulk in the slot where the parking brake cable ball hooks into the handle just to annoy me? ![]() Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: March 27, 2022 02:17PM As pointed out by a P/M...no lubrication yet. I wanted to have the cable installed before. Working on old cars is messy enough as it is. Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: March 27, 2022 02:27PM Not a lot mechanically, just realized the battery in the 63 had a 7/17 date on it, so got a new one since we leave Wednesday for a 5300+ mile trip in it to do RT 66 with 2 stops first in TX... () Date: March 31, 2022 12:28PM Remember when Gem ran out of brake fluid...right rear wheel cylinder. Managed to get it all apart without breaking, twisting, or using a BFH. Bought everything to do both sides...but I only do one side at a time. Because I loathe drum brakes and I use the other side for a pattern. Turns out the front brakes and M/C are almost new...thank you Stig. Attachments: ![]() Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: April 02, 2022 02:06PM While visiting the Corvair Ranch today, I contributed to the effort of stripping paint from my 1964 Greenbrier. I worked on the driver's side 1/4 panel from the driver's door back to the rear doors but only above the red stripe. This represented almost five hours. 1962 95 F.C. () Date: April 02, 2022 02:39PM Not Corvair work per se but will let me do more work on corvairs. Brought home a small 12 ton press today. As folks age out and shops close up there is more and more I need to be able to do myself. This ought to help. ![]() Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: April 07, 2022 10:04AM Since it takes four hands to hang brake shoes you have to be smarter than the brake shoes. I bought new drums, cylinders, hoses, and shoes from O'Reilly...they "look" pretty darn good. Normally I use Corvair vendors...since they're likely all coming from the same place I saved $150. () Date: April 07, 2022 05:27PM Brakes are looking good Phil! Gem will drive like new. Today I got rid of this doofiness on the fender of my '66 turbo. Not sure what it was, but it had to go. ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

() Date: April 07, 2022 06:17PM Wow. I think Beers nailed it! I had pondered if it was something similar. Almost thought about looking for something to fit but ultimately decided just to remove it. Re: What did you WORK ON / DO....to your Corvair today? Posted by:

Yup, before I read any further and saw Beers post, I immediately thought, "That looks like the hole for a Firebird sidemarker light!" () Date: April 08, 2022 03:28PM I spent the day STRIPPING (Paint) on the Greenbrier. Since the prior owner was going for the "Rat Rod" LOOK, and sanded through to bare metal where the paint was thin, then clear coated it, I really had no choice but to paint the van. 1962 95 F.C. () Date: April 08, 2022 03:32PM I worked on the front panel, the top portion of the driver's door and the rear doors today. The lower corners below the front bumper were in better condition than I expected them to be in but did find some unexpected rust holes behind the bumper and under bondo...so out came the bondo. IF I am going this far, it may as well get done better than it was. 1962 95 F.C. I am using the following tools provided to me. A Snap On Tools Carbide edge scraper to remove the surface paint. (Can't find an exact photo but it is similar to the item shown here) After that, I am using a Dewalt variable speed Polisher set at 1,000 RPM with a 3M 3M 05579 Stikit 8" Disc Pad with 3M Green Corps Stikit 8" 40 Grit Sanding Discs # 01550 On the front panel of the van, I started using some Aircraft grade paint stripper but it wasn't any quicker and it was messier than I liked it. This is not a quick process and I would prefer to just have a body shop take it on BUT it isn't easy to source these days. The individual doing the paint work won't guarantee his work unless the van is stripped to bare metal. He isn't willing to take on that chore himself so it is up to us to get it done. Once all the paint has been removed, the body work will be dealt with and additional surface preparation will take place. I feel the 40 grit sanding discs leave the surface a bit to rough so it will probably be gone over with something else to make the surface a bit smoother before metal prep and sealer/primer is applied.
