I changed the starter wire from the wiring harness to the solenoid. Was having some intermittent starting issues and turns out the wire was spliced and an eyelet added, so that was likely the issue.

Greased the front end and got it on the road for the first time this season. The city just started cleaning the streets from the gravel on the roads for winter, so I dont like the Monza out there having rocks spit at it.

I havent been on the forum in a few years. Lost my login info and was just busy living, working and driving the vair. Hope everybody is doing well.

Looks good. What size tires are you running on that blue Monza? The ride height looks pretty good.

Mine has 205/70R14 on the rear and I measured the ride height at 7.75". Its not far off the 8.5" +- 0.5" spec in the shop manual, but it appears to ride lower than some pics like yours and others.

Installed a Dale HB on one of my '66 Sport Sedans and adjusted the valves on one side on my latest '66 A/C car. One came loose suddenly for some reason. I put a little more crimp in the nut and adjusted all the valves on that side.

Finally started putting my reworked Tom Knoblauch heads on my car last night. Slid both heads on (with head gaskets) and have one torqued down. Installed the rockers finger tight and will adjust valves when I get the other head torqued down. Ran out of time so I hope to do more Friday or this weekend.

I fixed a leaky wheel cylinder and a couple of stuck ones, flipped over a couple of incorrectly installed springs so the adjusters could turn, installed a nylon pitman bushing and balanced my brake drums and tires on my latest '66. Wow it made a big difference. Super smooth. I'll be balancing all my drums now. It stops straight now too.

The convertible I bought last July is using more oil than I am comfortable with.
This past week I saw a "Rebuilt" Top End 110 for sale locally. (Block not split)
New Clarks cast pistons, new rings, rod bearings etc... (I did pull a plug so I could look at the #1 Piston. I verified it was new as advertised.)
After speaking with the seller, I was comfortable the engine was likely "As advertised" so I made an offer that was accepted.
Once the deal was done, I also got the engine stand it was on and a bunch of other used and rebuilt Corvair parts included in the deal. If I had known there would be additional items, I would have cleaned out the van more than I did.grinning smiley

With some luck, I will hopefully have a good engine for the car that will serve my needs. All I need now is the motivation and energy to swap the engine into the car.

What amount of oil consumption are you "uncomfortable" with?

I run 20w40 here on the Oregon Coast And see 1500 miles per quart. 110/pg little Highway driving.

I would not be alarmed at 500 per qt. on a used engine as long as blowby was reasonable.

How about a quart or maybe more for every tank of gas? That is what seems to be happening.
Initially I attributed it to the car's lack of miles during the past several years and hoped that with a few miles of driving, things might get better.
Even though I have not put more than maybe 2000 miles on the car in since I bought it last July, I was beginning to think of solutions.
When this engine became available, I kinda figured it might be worth investigating.
I may wait for a while before actually making a commitment to move forward with the swap, maybe after the convertible season has moved on. I'm in no real hurry.

That will low it down!

Please tell us you are not using 10w30??!!!

Drained all the gas out and pulled the sending unit from the tank.
Was reading empty with 11 gal of gas in it....
As I suspected, the brass float leaked and sunk.
But, using my new to me Quik Jack lift made the whole ordeal a bit more enjoyablethumbs up

It posted the first time...BUT you "double posted" [ always wait for the number in the "post message" button to disappear ].

And sometime when I delete the dupe post...it kills the pic!

I posted, and then it did come up for some reason.
SO, I thought I had forgotten to hit "Post Message", so I redid it.
Once I got the message, about my post being sent to a moderator, I knew that it had duplicated. hot smiley

Gas tank filler tube to tank inlet pipe hoses
Posted by: viewmaster ()

No pics, but it DID happen. I changed my filler neck hose (1 1/4" I.D.) and overflow line (1/2" I.D.) this afternoon. What a PITA!!!!! Sorry for that, but I didn't plan well, and the tank was 1/2 filled with fuel, and I don't have a lift, so wrestling the tank underneath the car was the worst of it. Also, getting those clamps on, up in that tiny spot, is next to impossible, but persistence prevailed. Hope this ends my evap leak problem and returns some fuel milage for the old commuter.

Had the front, rear, and lower grills powder coated.

Ask for any black so didn't have to pay a set up fee.

Came back as satin black...dead on perfect match.

Pure coincidence...better to be lucky than good.
