Just looked at the calendar and realized I have Two Weeks till the econorun to have a running corvair.

I had the intake crossover rechromed last month on TurboTurd and while its apart I have a couple oil leaks and a carb rebuild to tend to. And the project is starting to snowball...

Considering I've done basically nothing to it but gas and oil changes for the last 9 years, it's tough to complain lol

Got my re-built carbs installed, hooked up and ready. Finished installing the engine wiring harness and hooking up the starter and alternator. Was able to turn the motor over for the first time!

Hello, today I removed a radio from a mysterious "M" coded '62 Monza coupe (WN), for my '62 Corvair Monza sedan (OA)! Hopefully be installing the radio and housing, freshly painted ash tray, speaker ring, NOS clock, and trim, this week!

Yesterday I got my new to me evening orchid convertible project started. Sadly it was pretty quickly apparent it had a dropped valve seat. It has not run in many years, so surely something was wrong.

The teardown started:

Yup!

Sad sight for now:

I have a nice set of pistons and cylinders and got a nice fresh set of heads from a buddy today. So while I was hoping (yeah right!) that the engine would be clean and in good shape, we all know the reality ( most of the time) when buying a random old Corvair.

Helped install a new speedometer cable in a '66 Monza. First one I've done, and I can say I think it is easier on my '64!

Finally got that P/G governor o-ring replaced on Gem.

Getting the bolt back in might be a new pain in the foot.

Yesterday Purple got valve cover gaskets, oil change, horn button, exhaust donuts and a new muffler. The old muffler was huge and hung down. Secretly I was excited when it finally rotted out and I could finally get rid of it. New one tucked in place just like it should be. Finally ready to hit the road!

Picked up a fresh 18 ga floor pan patch panel for the passenger side on the Rampside. Fabbed up in a few hours by local Hot Rod shop owner Troy Ladd at Hollywood Hotrods. I drew up a shop drawing and brought in a small cut out for reference. The channels and spacing are dead on.

Original Crusty Floor:

New Patch Panel:

In the foothills above Los Angeles, CA
1965 Corvair Monza 4 speed -- Corsa Engine
LA Built - originally Powerglide
Paint is OG White for now
1963 Rampside "J-Side" - 4 speed, 150 Turbo engine - running dual carbs
Patina and Primer
