'66 WIRE WHEEL COVERS WITHOUT WIRES.

Sold my NOS Factory mag caps I'd put 400 miles on in 4 years, and dug out my wire wheel covers from storage ... They were all dirty and dusty so I decided to take them all apart, clean them up, and repaint the Black backing plates .. after cleaning them up, they fidnt look so bad, and they kind of reminded me of my 68 Camaros Chevy Rally Wheels, so I wondered what they'd look like if I put them back together without the spokes . I really like them..they kind of have a beatnik look to them
Marty Katz is my mechanic in Las Vegas, I showed them to him and he r weeally liked them too.. I asked him if he's ever seen anyone do this before, and he said he has never seen anyone do this with the wire wheel covers in his lifetime..... HAVE YOU??

What do you think?,
Like them... Yay or Nay?...

COMENTS PLEASE !!!

Would be easier to see if the photo had not been tweaked.
They kinda look like old school steel rims with center caps and beauty rings.
Just never have seen center caps with Three Bar Spinners before. thumbs up

Started tearing this engine down. Came out of a junker I sent off for scrap a few weeks back. My buddy pulled it and brought it back. Sadly disheartened pretty quick when I got the shroud off and saw the hole through the top of the crankcase cover. Double thrown rod, as bad as I've ever seen. Bad enough the flywheel bolts were all bent. Locked up at speed. Not much good to save.

Rjohnson and I went and got my first Corvair today. A 65 Corsa 140. It's rough and needs work but it's mine 😃.

More on the junk engine I have been stripping. I have heard/seen the rivets come loose on early pulleys. This takes the cake though, rivets all gone and it was held together with two bolts. eye rolling smiley Good news it that while this engine was held together with bailing wire, RTV and rust, the heads are beautiful.

Two bolts was the normal fix... mentioned here many times.

Wow. That picture in the last post came out monstrously huge. This is the 65 Corsa Rjohnson helped me pick up on the 9th. It's a bit rough, but it runs, and I couldn't beat the price.

Painted tail light housings for the Monza coupe. These are for the OEM bulbs for now. I still have to modify other housings for the LED bulbs for both Monzas.

Hauled this beauty home. As much as I have been trying to get rid of Corvairs, this one was too good to pass up. One of the most solid late convertibles I have ever come across, but the color is the real reason.
