I've had a little bit of a sputter think off gently from idle, so I cleaned the carbs with carb cleaner today, including pulling the mixture screws (after determining how many turns out they were) and spraying down those holes. Seems to have improved things. I also adjusted the chokes after bending the choke rods to stop some slight binding.

I picked up a 110HP core engine today to rebuild and install in the Lakewood. I was going to do the original 80HP but I think the extra 30HP will improve the drivability of the wagon.

Tore down the 64 4dr differential, removed the bearings and races measured them to order new ones, scraped tons of grit and grime off the case and put it in the jet cleaner. Pulled the bellhousing because the Junkyard Primer said it was an early based on the casting number. Wrong! Reinstalled it and the flex plate.

Installed a Glove Box on the 63 then removed the door reset spring and straighten the outer trim that was bent from the spring not sitting on the door catch

Yesterday I cleaned my front spindles and hubs, rear trailing arm and strut mounting hardware and painted them.
While I was at it, I repainted the rear trailing arms. I had initially painted them black in error as I wanted them to match the front upper & lower arms that I had painted Cast Iron Gray.
Years ago I had already purchased a pair of rebuilt rear struts that had been powder coated so all I needed to clean and paint were the brackets and bolts.
It is amazing just how much time cleaning nuts, bolts, and washers takes when they are fifty years old and getting painted. I spent the better part of the day doing this.

SPENT MONEY!!!

The HF 800# transmission jack (60234) that fits Motohead's engine cradle is on Super Coupon sale at $119.99 and that is a bargain.

If you don't get the monthly coupon catalog you should (just ask them to send it) and the current catalog is kept under the register.

You don't need to mess with any of that.

They have all the latest coupons. You don't have to print them. They will usually scan them on my phone or I can just give them the coupon number. This site sometimes has 25% off coupons that the store doesn't even know about but they always work.

Wanted to warn others about the hf jack and an issue I had with mine.
I took the photo Phil posted and drew the line going to the cross brace.

I noticed when mine, with the engine sitting on it, would not sit level when it was lowered all the way down.
But it would level up when I started jacking.

When I first purchased it it was fine. Also it was a little difficult to move around lowered.

I got the engine installed and took a look and the cross brace weld had broken on one side .

So I need to fix this., but wanted to warn others to keep a check on this brace, or to modify it to keep this from happening.

I plan to reweld this and also strengthen it up in that area!

Just a fyi!

In the past several days I have spent quite a bit of time doing the more dreary, dirty task of scrubbing, cleaning, and painting a whole lot of small parts, nuts, bolts, washers etc....that will typically go un-noticed by probably 90% or more of the people who actually look closely at the car after I get it on the road.

After I had begun reassembly of some components, I noticed that the one or two odd pieces I had initially decided not to remove, clean, and paint were making the rest of the work I have accomplished look less than acceptable so off they came and they got cleaned and painted too.

No photo's this time around so you will just need to trust I am telling the truth here.grinning smiley

Getting ready to stab a mock up power pack in my racecar.

Setting up for short course with 3.27 R&P with three speed.

Last pass was 3.55...we were running out of gear at 7K rpm.

Also need to see if Kostich exhaust logs fit around cradle.

It must be a roller for pre-inspect at November E/M event.

Schrum II motor goes to Paulo this week for freshening up.

This afternoon after work I finally got around to the dreaded task of starting to work and clean the Heater Box for the '65.

As much as I was not looking forward to this task, I am glad I did because I would not have been happy if I had ignored it.

The Mouse Nest did not surprise me but the Blower Motor Wheel did. I really expected it to be in much better shape but I guess all those years on the West Coast were harder on it than I imagined they might be.

As a West Coaster, I would guess that it was the Mouse Urine, more than the West Coast, that did-in that Squirrel Cage fan right there! eye popping smiley

Mel,
I would have a tendency to agree with that as this car sat in a dry garage here in Maryland for the past 35 years or so before I brought it home eight years ago.

My friend Pat came and hauled this off from my dads. A dream he had in the early 80's that never hit the road. This beastie should live on as restaurant booths now.

Appreciate the enthusiasm AM. I dreamt of it running plenty as a kid. That said my dad wasn't much of a welder. I'm surprised it didn't break in half loading it. Never got a rear suspension or any of the controls. Too many projects. I could spend thousands of dollars and hours completing it for basically a novelty.

Well the season is over for driving the corvair, so I started on a much needed job!

The O rings where leaking on one head and it wasn't bad, so I've been driving and cleaning it up this summer.

So it was cold and raining and i figured it's time to start replacing them.

Got one side stripped down and stopped for the day.

Dug out all the tools and have everything ready for tomorrow.

Don't ask me why, but I have been dreading this. I've done it before but just wasnt looking forward to it!

Tomorrow after I get back from the kidney specialist I will get busy!

Have a great evening!
