On my forum, the "what did you do to your Jeep today?" Thread is very popular for folks who work on their vehicles. I thought I'd kick off a similar thread here and see if it catches on.

Yesterday, I replaced my turbo fuel return "T". To replace the T, I drove my Corvair up on ramps (front two wheels),jacked up the drivers side wheel and put a jack stand under the pinch weld to hold it up and then removed the drivers side tire. With the tire off, I rolled under my Corvair and using a 1/4 drive with three long extensions and a swivel, loosened the top clamp on the filler neck hose. I removed the fuel filler door. Because my T was broken, I did not need to disconnect it. I simply pulled the fuel filler up, rotated it so that overflow lined up with a notch in the fuel filler area (not sure if a previous owner made the notch or if it is factory... It looks to be very nicely done) and pulled the fuel filler tune up and out the fuel filler area.

With the fuel filler tube removed, I could reach in with a 1/4 ratchet with various swivels and extensions. And remove the remaining clamps holding on the old T. With the old T out, I installed the new T, being careful not to push the new T on to the fuel tank too far (if you push it on too far, then the T will not be long enough to reach the filler tube... Ask me how I know). One note; I connected the fuel return hose to the T before I installed the T. With the T clamped to the fuel tank and the return line routed properly, I put the fuel filler tube back in, being careful to fit it into the T and the filler hose that connects the fuel filler tube to the tank at the same time. I found if I slid the fuel filler tube into the tank first and then tried to connect the T, it was impossible to connect. You really need to install both at the same time.

With the fuel filler tube installed, I crawled back underneath and tightened the top clamp on the fuel filler hose. Then the hardest part... Tightening the remaining clamp on the T. I found that if you rotate the clamp properly, you can tighten the clamp through the fuel filler cutout in the inner fender. This was by far the hardest part of the job. Once I had it tightened, I connected the furl return line and started it up to check for leaks... There were none. Then I simply put everything back together and went on my merry way. The job took about 5 hours, mostly because of the difficulty tightening the clamps. It was like performing surgery through a small hole.

Since I have 3 I walked past them and kept on walking. It's too cold to do anything.

I checked on it yesterday in storage and it is mouse free and sleeping nicely.

I washed it and then my wife and I took it out for a drive. 73 degrees here yesterday.

Cleaned and painted a bunch of parts: shift tube, pedal assembly, heater control.

It was dry, and about 48. I uncovered the 66 and took her for a nice long drive down the highway! Thumbs up galore and she ran great! Back to sleep she went,,,,,,,going to get really cold this week. I hate to eave it sitting and it felt good to drve it since it has been asleep for two months.

Put the battery charger on the wagon in the garage. Checked the tires on the other vairs waiting out the cold. Roads here in Albuquerque got paved with salt here last week so they are all going to sit for a while. Have to wash the red vert real well after driving it through this. Similar threads like this here before ...always fun to follow as long as they keep going.

It was -2 when I got up now it's +3 and an expected +19. I have a bunch of new parts waiting and a propane heater. But I still have to walk out there. I suppose if I were to drive the wife's car out the 100 ft or send one of the kids to go turn on the heater...lol Maybe later

I am finishing up a diff rebuild, new clutch etc., should have it finished today, and then for a drive. She's been down for about 2 weeks, wanna get er out and give her some exercise.

I finally got around to installing my NOS parking brake warning light. I won this on flea-bay awhile ago and was surprised to find out that there were almost two complete assemblies. A complete early and a partial late set-up. I had to do a little on-site modification, but it works like a charm. Now to finish that turbo engine.

Wiped off snow !

Today I welded up the clutch pedal tube. The factory put a garbage tack weld on it that had absolutely no penetration. My clutch pedal swung down to the floor and I thought...what the heck???

It was a fairly easy weld, other than the upside down welding position under the dash. New bushings and a new c-clip and my clutch pedal is as good as new. I have one more repair item; fixing my fuel sending unit. It appears my float sunk. I have a new one ordered from Clark's.
