Lakewood queston.

Is this stock? It looks a little to perfect for an owner mod.
Either way, what would it do??
my only thought is that it would deflect the recirculating "warm up" air. But for what purpose.??????

Yes that is stock, but I can't remember if it was a '61 or '62 thing. It usually gone.

Just went and looked at my '62 and I don't even have the holes for it. Is that on your Lakewood or your wagon?

Sorry, it is on the Lakewood. My 62 has no holes for it so it must be another difference.

I do not have the holes ether. What does it look like when you remove it? It does look official.

Maybe there was concern that the hot recirculated air would create a "hot spot" on the cargo floor area. Just a wild guess.

The floor gets pretty hot once the engine is off so I do not think they would be to worried about it that much.

It is not in the 62 assembly manual any where I can see.

It is on the left side just in front and slightly to the left of the body tag you can see in my picture. You can see Junkys body tag if you know it is there.

Paul, post up a picture for us. Does any one have a 61 assembly manual they could look for our mystery plate?

Could it be a summer winter plate that is just stored there? Junky does your car have a high output generator?

Junky does your car have a high output generator? I have no idea what generator came original on this 1961 Lakewood.
I got it with no engine. I haven't even checked any numbers on it to see what it was originally. I have noticed it is a three speed.

Its my parts car/ reassembly model for my 62 wagon.smiling smiley

After pondering this...my take is that it perhaps deflects the air coming up from the slot at the top of the left side rear air duct...which would create a hot flow towards the fuel line where it hugs the engine bay.... to defeat "cold sink". Could it possibly be a forced air method to combat vapor lock?
At first I thought it might be a safety guard of some sort...but going by the position, that don't make much sense either.

My 61 has it and that is what I was told it was from the guy I brought my wagon from.

Sorry this took so long Sam. Here is that part on my 61 wagon. Mine seems to stand up vertically compared to the one in the previous pic. Also here's a pic of the body tag.

My Uncle who had a 61 Lakewood which had very low mileage had two of them one on each side. I think that they were for the backup lights as a ground. So when you closed the door there was a contact at the bottom of the door and the plate was for the ground? I think>?? from what I remembered. But then I could be wrong.
