FC interior colors

I found this information in a leaflet "THE 1961 CHEVROLET TRUCK" (don't ask me where I found it), regarding the interior color of the FC's.
I can remember a discussion not to long ago where someone stated that the interior should be some kind of beige color. According to the leaflet this does not seem to be correct, or have I missunderstood something ? According to below most of the interior should be silver.

Some additional questions:
What is the "front door panel upper embossment" ?
What color is charcoal ? Dark greyish black ?

"Interior body panels of bath Deluxe and Custom interiors are painted silver
gray, except for the instrument panel which has a charcoal gray finish . Other
common appearance items include silver gray steering wheels and black, ribbedrubber floor mats .
The left hand sunshade of textured fiberboard has a silver gray finish, as does the web.grain vinyl roof panel insert.
Items of additional comfort, provided by the Custom aptian include a 2·tane
treatment of the doors which is achieved by painting the upper embossments
charcoal gray; 2.toning of the instrument panel, with a silver gray front face;
right hand sunshade; left hand armrest; cigar lighter; silver anodized aluminum
trim plate for the dispatch box door; and mare luxurious seat trim .
Durable vinyl and nylon.faced pattern cloth are used to trim Custom seats.
Seat durability is enhanced with ridge-free french seams and seam-free paints
of contact during entry and exit . Increased seat comfort is provided with extrathick urethane foam padding in the cushion and added urethane foam padding
in the backrest.
Contrasting with the muted silver gray and charcoal gray of the seat coverings
are the dark charcoal gray facings and bolsters having a pin seal grain. The
rear of the backrest is covered with charcoal gray vinyl."

61 model FC interiors were painted silver and dark grey (charcoal). Deluxe models added two-color paint treatments.

My first picture below is a base model '61 showing the silver paint treatment (seat is not original). Base seats were shades of grey, deluxe seats were offered in a few colors. click here

Chevy designers changed the basic color to beige (gold) for '62, adding white accents for deluxe models. The beige (also known as fawn or gold) theme continued through the end for Rampsides and Vans. Deluxe Greenbriars got colors (red, turquoise, and so-on) with optional upholstered interior panels that were not offered for Rampsides or Vans.

Corvairkid.com includes 62 and 64 "resource centers" with great information about FC interiors. The Clarks link above tells of the various FC upholstery options.

I wish they stuck with the silver/black combo. It's better looking than the fawn/white IMO. My GB was pretty ugly, when I got it.

SwedishVair,

Regardless of where you found it, thank you for posting this. I wish I'd had this when we painted my truck. I thought that the interior of a '61 should be silver since every one of them I'd seen that hadn't been repainted looked like it had been silver not fawn (beige).

Here are some photos of my truck's interior. Turns out we got it almost right. The light gray paint we chose is really a warm gray not silver like it should be, and we painted both door panel embossments charcoal gray instead of just the upper ones. You are correct, charcoal gray is a dark gray.

I did get the seats right, thanks to Clarks. When we reupholstered them, part of the original fabric, vinyl and foam were still on it. (Check out the date stamp on the foam!) The fabric pattern was originally the "deluxe" pattern and the new NOS fabric I chose is the "custom" pattern.

Thanks Craig, Jim and HMoore for the pictures !

So the 61 was silver and the rest was fawn/beige/gold. So we where both right.

I have been to CorvairKids pages and looked, they are very good BUT they are 62 and 64 and not 61 and there is a difference as seen above.

There is also a difference from the sales brochure (pics from Craig) and production because in my table is says "Driver compartment floor": Black but in the brochure pictures the kick panels ( wich I assume are included in the floor since they are not mentioned separetly) are the same color as the rest of the interior and not black.

I love the colors of HMoore's truck they are truly varm and inviting. Is the instrument panel bright or dull ? It seems to be quite bright, if so is that not disturbing on a sunny day ?

I may be wrong, but I think gm used up last years parts on current years. I have a 62 and my seats match the 61, like pretty red rampy's original seats. I recently got a "62" seat from Corvair Ranch and it has the stripes. I have no reason to believe mine where switched, but I don't know that for sure. I've also read that some 62 f/c's have the 63 and up shifter.

On my "fleet sale" Bell telephone 62, my bucket seats were the very colorful red green yellow stripes. They are now recovered in their original fabric thanks to Clark's.All my interior metal is fawn except for white on the dash front. My floors will be charcoal gray and luckily found a mint front rubber mat that I'm able to use after "reconditioning" it with WD-40.Still looking for the optional and apparently very rare front turn signal lights required by some states.EddieB Dade City,Fl

Bumping this up. I'm looking for the paint codes for the fawn used on the 61 Loadside interior and the color used around the instrument panel.

any reason for the seafoam <???> green used under the fawn?

Any one have the information out there?

Thanks!

You will be looking a long time for "'61 Fawn". Fawn started in '62. '61 standard models were silver & grey inside.

Check out the "Corvanatics" website - it's chock full of fine detailed info about Corvair 95 - aka - FC "Forward Control" information for all years.
Steve Spilatro has worked diligently to improve the site and folks should consider membership in this fine CORSA Group.
Have a look at the "Resources" pages - you'll be delighted at what is available.

Interestingly, my 61 has fawn through out with some type of "seafoam' green underneath.
