Mods and Spammers
Posted by: Swifster ()

Why do the Mods on this site continue to allow spammers? Is it really that hard to ban someone from here. Does it take that much time out of your day to remove the crap about Air Jordan tennis shoes and now RayBan sunglasses? Can the Mods be that lazy? Come on guys, no one is interested in that _____. Get rid of these _________ ___________ ________. Or are the guys __________ paying you to advertise?

First off, its just Matt and I these days. Only 2 of us to look at each thread on this site. When someone reports a message, we both get an email alert. Then we have to manually delete the thread. Matt and I are not LAZY we also have normal lives (well I do anyways) and can not be on the phorum 24/7 watching for spam (well maybe Matt can, since he lives the good life!)

As of right now, Royce is the only person who has the power to ban anyone. I have emailed him asking him to change this but have not heard back. I agree this is crap and personally am sick of deleting spam from the same four posters every single day. I have not heard from Royce in a while, he must be busy with something.

Being a moderator of an active site like this is allot of work. The mods here are far from lazy. I was the only moderator on a busy site years ago and I would get pissed that there were some people who seemed to think that I should respond to every little thing within minutes of them posting it. Spammers were hard to keep on top of. Most use automated software to join sites and post. Matt and Ryan should have the power to delete members who spam. I had a zero tolerence policy towards spammers, spam equaled member deleted. They would come back under a different name. It was a constant battle. I added a "member approval" system. I would have to approve a member before they could join. That seemed to stop it. I also sent a site guide lines to new members. Back then it seemed it was porn spammers that were the most persistent. I think the mods here do a great job, but being able to delete guys like "hugyerwhoever" would be helpful. Keep up the good work!

Anybody that calls the moderators of this "FREE" site lazy, ought to be banned from the site. PERIOD.
I don't get involved in politics often, but that's just plain "RUDE".

Keep up the good work, Matt and Ryan, and ignore those who know not how a website works.

I agree that Spam has no place on this or any other forum period. I also agree that people with no regard or respect for the site that post it should be prohibited from posting anything.

Many years ago I was staying with a relative who served Spam for dinner, I did not want to eat it but was not permitted to say no (I was young) I was not allowed to get up from the dinner table until I ate it all.....Yuck!

In the 42 plus years I have never had anything to do with Spam in any way shape or form, I simply have no tolerance for the stuff.grinning smiley

For those that suggest that we should not click on it if we don't want to read it or see it......If it is there we see it even without clicking on it, some of these unwanted intruders now automatically pop up when one simply inadvertently rolls over it.

If I frequent a site with to much of this stuff, my choice would simply be to stop frequenting that site. I know these idiots won't stop spreading their Spam and the moderators have done a great job to contain it as well as they have.

I for one would like to thank the moderators for doing such a wonderful job.thumbs up

Only thing members can and should do is open the damn Spam and then scroll down to - Report.
A simple SPAM in the box and send it is all it takes to get it done.
Matt & Ryan do a great job at keeping most of it at bay and every one agrees that Royce needs to get interested in improving the site by allowing more abilities to his moderators.

I once ran a forum. So many people spammed I spent hours banning words, people, ip's, etc. I finally gave up and killed the forum.

I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.

Seriously, this is not a business. This is two guys that have real lives other than this forum, doing an amazing job of striking just the right balance of moderation.

To the people who complain about spam and OT threads- why you even on a Corvair site when you don't even HAVE a Corvair? Much less make your snide comments in such crass language. If a bit of spam on a web site is that likely to raise your blood pressure to that extreme, you need to get a life, or your life will be cut short with an attack. Exactly! I grew up in Hawaii and allot of the locals are used to, and enjoy canned meat. Go into any halfway decent breakfast cafe over there and you will find 'Spam and eggs' and 'Vienna sausage and eggs' on the menu. Fried, of course. Alot of canned meat was shipped to Hawaii during WWII, and it stuck. The locals love it. (State with the most consumption of canned meat)
