Went from popup to 34' Pace Arrow in 99. It is a '94 model, 34' long. Wouldn't trade it. You do need to use them and if you have to "justify" it, you probably can't afford it. Now is a good time to find a used coach, but check it out.

Check towing capacity so you are't going over gross carrying capacity which is the MH weight and the weight of what you are towing. That is the only issue with ours and because of that fact the rib let me buy a featherlite trailer for trips over 300 miles with the vair!

Just take you time. There is a god online site that is like auto trader online that is for motorhomes.

God luck!

Hey TexasAg, what's the powerplant you're running?

This rig was seen at Palm Springs Belt Toss last fall. It runs a 540(?) Ford dumptruck V8. Originally a Buick Staight 8

Love the old Flex flyers..

My MH is a Chevy P-32 chassis w/ a 454. I have it maxed out weight wise and so it is run pretty hard. We have 140+K on it. Had 37K on it when we bought it.

Would like a Diesel pusher, but not sure I want to spend the bucks. Am seriously thinking of having a makeover done. New interior and paint since I know all the "things" about this one and am comfortable with the coach.

Teeruk, you can find a good used diesel pusher with a allison transmission now.Look for a Monaco or holiday rambler. Most have the cummins diesel engines and are good reliable well built units. It will cost you more but worth it and as much as you travel you will save on motel bills.Monaco has now been bought by Travistar but still building coaches under monaco name.New ones would be too pricey but a nice used unit would be great.Good luck. I have been reading these posts with interest. Some of you have no clue and others, well, you pretty well have it.

For quite a few years I had a Corvair van that I pulled a trailer with. I put 100,000 miles on that mostly pulling a trailer loaded with parts. We would stay in the van if we had to but would get a room when we made enough money at a swap meet.

We graduated to a 32' class A GM 454 pulling a 24' enclosed trailer. I would get 8 -8.5 mpg after putting in my Amsoil and doing a few other things. The Banks header system was one of the better things I did. It didn't help the mileage but sure helped the power.

What I used for a criteria to use the motorhome was this; over 800 miles one way and more than 3 days stay anywhere. Anything less that that and it was cheaper to use something else and get a motel. A motorhome is pretty expensive to use for a weekend getaway.

As far as traveling with a motorhome? I would stop at rest areas, Wa Mart, truck stops and anywhere that looked like I wouldn't get hassled by anyone. This works for a night or two as you carry your house with you! You don't really need a campground until you need to either fill your water or dump your tanks and mostly dump your tanks. I have also seen some rest areas with dump stations!

I appreciate the input. Everyone has their preferences.

I have some friends that sleeps in their van. PERIOD! I require a bathroom. I've done the restroom deal, it's not my cup of tea.

As far as driveing my house down the road... Hmmmm...

I'm also concerned about paying $100 and hour for repairs. I do ALL of my own repairs, or hire a semi-specialist for much less than 1/2 the above figure. But one of these newfangles electroinically controlled everythings is scary!

Ok, I've read all these posts . Time to put my 2 cents in. I've had them all from a motorhome to you name it.
.
I absolutely love my slide in truck camper (2002 Vanguard - Canadian made) on the back of my 2002 F250 7.3 Powerstroke diesel LWB 4X4 crewcab. When it's on , I have a 12mpg diesel motorhome with everything a trailer or conventional MH has except room to 2 step my wife around the kitchen .It's got everything my travel trailer has except the extra room. You're either laying down or sitting down anyway ! Gotta love the bathroom handy when you're on the road. And I can trailer my Corsa behind to shows as well. It's a 7.3 . We put almost 10k miles on that last year. I can park anywhere I can normally park my truck with the truck camper on. Oh, one more thing. If you get one, don't forget to get one with a "dry" shower. I could go on. Better stop here. You can see that I'm sold on truck campers.

Stay away from 2004 or later Ford 6.0 / Lots of problems . Stick to 7.3 or 2010 or later 6.4 's . Still hard to beat late model 7.3's. Made them into early 2003.
