If you do switch make sure you are not running solid core plug wires. (maybe you know this, i did not) I recently switched and had to also switch plug wires. Solid core worked great on a built engine with points but had to seek advice why I couldn't dial it in with the elctronic setup. Went back to more stock type 7mm plug wire and all's well.

I to would buy from Jeff, but not Pertronics stuff. As most of you here know I no longer favor the Pertronics product. Especially the Pertronics II.

There are many good aftermarket electronic ignition systems that will perform better and longer than what you asked for.

I have never had a problem with one and have never had a petronix fail or misfire at all,,I have 1's and 2's and have been running them For a very long time without a problem at all,,they are pretty much just a trigger source telling the coil when to discharge much like points,,I think people that have had problems with the petronixs units had other problems that caused a failer of the unit?? for the price you cant beat them to get away from dealing with points IMO thumbs up

What would you suggest?

My only complaint with my Pertronix II was getting it timed after the quick and easy install. Hours of attempting to static time it, with it sparking in a diff spot every time, and I ended up getting my dad to rotate the dizzy until it started, then I went from there with the light. It's been running great as a daily driver with no issues since install. But I have only had it for 3 years now.

HMMM, I just rebuilt a 64 Spyder engine. The owner had installed a Pertronics. The car ran just fine, started easily and drove normally absolutely the way it should have.

Now, as soon as you started to get boost and/or in the upper RPM range the engine would drop a cylinder and misfire. This happened before the rebuild also. The carb was checked, plugs, wires cap, etc. It was better after the rebuild but still not right and would still drop a cylinder at the upper end of RPM.

I put points in and the miss was gone! Boost in first gear!

There are several people doing the GM electronic conversions. For myself I do the old Chrysler ignition and I am going to work on putting a GM module in the system.

My favorite is a modified Chrysler magnetic pickup housed in the original distributor triggering an MSD box [6A or 6AL]. Not stock but nearly bulletproof.

I've had a pertronix since I bought my car 6 years ago. Never had a hiccup with it, full boost no problem. My car runs awesome but I'm sure just like everything else there are gonna be bad apples in the bunch...

I've had good luck and long service from Pertronix 1 units. Pertronix II units appear to have low rpm issues (they lose sync and fire on every other cylinder). They're problematic with PG cars which often have a much lower idle speed (500 or so.) Larry Claypool (Sr. CORSA Tech Editor) is working with Pertronix, note the issue only occurs on 6-cyl versions idling at very low rpm.
