Dave,

I see in the video you don't use the plier portion of the tool. You just use the ends of the handles. That's just like the tool I have used for 30+ years.

I do use the "special" tool to remove the hold down retainers. I find it faster than vise grips.

Good video Dave!. I have used the special tool for the springs that hold the shoes on and sometimes its a pain to get it aligned and on. Your vice grips seemed to work better. Thanks.

Nice vid moto, good work with the "hat-cam". I too have used the special twist tool for the nail-spring retainer and found it unsatisfactory. I'll try the vice grips next time. Is there anything vice-grips can't do??

The hook is for pulling some other types of springs... usually on dual servo brakes.. vs our "Self Energizing"

I agree with Dave wholeheartly. The proper tool is the cat's ass for doing the work with the springs. Also that a set of baby vice grips work better than the factory tool for the pin spring retainer.
