() Date: April 04, 2012 07:04PM New Guy, just bought a 64 Convertible would like to keep a spare belt in the trunk. I hear that there are several makes of belt's BUT only a few that will hold up with the twist the belt needs to make. My 64 is stock engine and pully any help on the best belt for my 64. () Date: April 04, 2012 07:10PM I prefer the belts that Clark's sells, but there are others too. David Clamp ![]() 1965 Corsa convertible 140 4spd/3.55/AM-FM "Victory is mine!" - SG Warner Robins, GA (15 miles south of Macon) Re: Fan Belt's Posted by:

() Date: April 04, 2012 07:12PM Common question with many opinions but I like the Gates 3V560. I find them at NAPA but many places online have them too. Dave W. () Date: April 04, 2012 07:13PM Clarks belts are good. The Gates Industrial 3V560, available through real auto parts stores, is a good belt too. Both are like the original GM belt i.e. fully wrapped and relatively narrow at 3/8". Craig N. () Date: April 04, 2012 07:17PM Mine is from CU. I've never had an issue. I think it is more how tight/loose it is than what it is. But my experience is only with one belt. () Date: April 04, 2012 07:21PM regarding tension: ignore the factory manual photo using the big pry bar. Tighten until you can still just turn the alt/gen pully with finger pressure. Maybe check a new belt tension after use for a few thousand miles. Spray it with silicone spray. () Date: April 05, 2012 04:11AM The standard Dayco, non-wrapped belts work on my van for 60,000 miles but I rarely take it over 4,000 rpm and shift normally. It has a mag fan and an alternator and the belt is tensioned so the alternator fan can be turned with reasonable pressure from one finger. On our Ultra, I run wrapped belts due to the heavier load placed on it by the charging system that has to charge the house batteries. It is hard on the belt but for alternator load reasons and not speed or momentum. I've already replace it once and I've got less than 10,000 miles on it. It didn't fail but was very worn when I did.
