Well guys, Dad has moved on to a far better place.

He was my mentor, I followed him in my career (he was a Fire Captain), and we did many things together. He was a heck of a mechanic and his foundation was based in his Army Air Corps training. Dad worked on the B-17, 24 and 29s during the war.
I loved hearing his war stories. He taught me well.

When I decided to do a Crown car back in "77" he said: Why are you ruining a perfectly good car? He never was a fan of my Hot Rodding passion however he always pitched in and gave me good advice. I enjoyed the hell out of our last ride in the V-8 car and I think he did too. Dad had Alzheimers.

I only hope that my boys feel about me as I felt about my Dad.

I miss you Dad, Godspeed.

I so know what you mean. I went through similar feelings when I lost my father 8 years ago. Gut-wrenching.

truly fortunate to have had the life with your dad you did, my dad got me started with Corvairs in the 60s, i know how you feel, it hurts but you were lucky to have had him in your life.

google a book called "fatherloss", maybe a space in there. Read it and learn more about what you are feeling and where it fits.

Joe sorry for your loss, you had a father to be proud of.
I lost my dad ten years ago, it seems like yesterday. He would not talk of the war until his last few months. My brothers and I presented him with his WWII Veterans Recognition medal a few days before he passed.

Cherish the memories and know that in some way he will always be with you.

I am fortunate to still have both of my parents, dad is 81 and mom is a little younger. In December they celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Dad still plays with his cars and mom still puts up with it.

I cherish every moment I can spend with them and talk with them several times each week. One day I will loose them, I know that it is something I can never be prepared for.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.

Joe ... I'm betting you're a chip off the old block, which means your boys WILL miss you just as much one day. Even if you've told them a thousand times before, tell your boys every story you can remember about growing up with him. It will help you grieve, and you'll have helped them learn how to handle their own when you're gone. Peace, friend.

About 3 month befor my Dad went in February he and I hot lapped his 39 Zypher around the block together.

The front right break was grabbing and I did'nt want to take it on the highway.

But guess who was all for taking it out to the highway and "Opening this baby up!!"

No picture of us in the Lincoln together ...but it happened.

Joe sorry to hear this news. My Dad also served in the Army Air Corps, was an aerospspace mechanic and now has Alzheimer's. Sounds like our Dad's had a lot in common.
