We (the San Diego Corvair Club) are creating an annual spring function ...six months out from the "Great Western Fan Belt Toss" in Palm Springs...called:"A 1 day aVair"...to be held in Rainbow, Calif. on Sat. April 28 2012 starting at 9am. .. Rainbow is about half way between Los Angeles and San Diego along Interstate 15. The location is the Rainbow Oaks Cafe on the east side of 15 between Rainbow Valley Rd. on the north and Mission Rd. on the south. There is no registration fee or swap space fee. You can show your cars and sell parts for free!!! The owner of the property is letting us use the parking lot and park behind the resturant. There are crafts,food and gift stores there also. If we have a good turnout,we will do this every year. Give us your input . Thanks, Paul

Sounds like fun! I will plan on being there. I have driven by Rainbow 100 times on my way to San Diego. You cannot see what is down there from the elevated
highway. Only treetops are visible. I have often wondered what was down in that hole.

Debbie & I will be there probably in separate vehicles (I work weekends).

Sounds like fun. I will put the word out to my car club. (SOUTH COAST CORSA).

Any details about registration, how many people signed up as well as swap vendors? Is there a signup form to use? Or do we just show up and hope others do?

In years past,the So.Cal. clubs would hold a very informal spring meet to show off their cars and sell parts....this event slowly disappeared,so we are bringing it back to life! There is no registration or sign up....just show up and have fun!Your participation is what makes this work. I am going to be there with lots of parts and I have lots of information to answer questions since I was a GM engineer at Chevrolet Oakland where we assembled the Corvairs and Chev II's until 1963. Thanks

Perhaps this an excuse for my wife and I to take Rusty through Ortega Highway for the first time... Hmm. 6" of slop in the steering wheel, but the brakes work OK and the used tires are holding up well! If I load it down with lots of spare parts to trade, too, it'll make it all the more fun!

If possible for me to get away, I'll give 'er a shot!

It was a fun trip.

22+Mpg, too! Engine is breaking in GREAT!
First trip through Ortega Highway since I got Rusty.

Picked up some non-halogen headlamps and some other small goodies.
Didnt' find what I went there for, though.

Funny enough, I met TWO people who almost bought the car before I did...

Blueberry fritter on the way; 3-egg skillet before leaving for home!


Note: It's not a cafe, it's a restaurant. Makes finding it MUCH easier!

We had a great, fun event at Rainbow. There was about 25 Corvair cars and trucks and an 8/10 Cord ['66 Turbo Corvair engine]. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a good time.
