my 64 vair vert wont turn over just a lil clicking around the carbs battery is fine any idea?

Need more details.

Have you checked the starter?

Clicking is usual low voltage, sure about that battery and the connections?

Clicking is LOW VOLTAGE.... or a bad starter motor solinoid.

Have a Voltmeter? Read the battery voltage on it's POSTS while trying to crank.

If it doesn't drop below 11 volts.. bat is fine..

Now move the test leads to the cable ends...if OK.. then to the starter solinoid.


If all places read OK... then it's the solinoid... OR the lead to the "S" [ purple] on the solenoid has low voltage... put the "+" lead on the S terminal.

Tell us what you find..

Knowing the battery voltage is a good starting point. What tests have you done so far ?

Since your going to advanced auto make sure before you go that your battery cables are in good shape. If not you can pickup some new ones. Just a thought.

picked up a charging system analzer ,the battery lit up 2 lights should have lit up at least 3the starter lit up its required 5.jumped the battery charged some and the enjine turned over ran a couple minutes and cut off and wont run but a moment then cut off now!

Sounds like it's not charging.. battery went dead again...


Put a charger on the battery overnight at least.. they are automatic and won't overcharge...

My Corvair has 12.74 volts, my everyday driver has 12.68 volts. They both crank over at proper speed.

im thinkin remove the batt. cables, clean them, reinstall them on a fully charged battery.....then test the alt.

Put the battery charger on overnite and the voltage is is amped up and the enjine turns over well sounds strong but quickly cuts off after you take the foot off the gas?

have the enjine going and driving but if you dont have the foot on the gas it idles out!

Battery sounds like it's good now, time to get into the carburetors.
