() Date: February 23, 2012 01:17AM I have a corvair sand rail with a crane xr700 electronic ignition. I have had this unit for 10 to 15 years. I'm having a lot of hesitation on accelerating, especially climbing a hill. No vacuum leaks, no timing issues and I have adjusted the carburator every way I can to fix the problem. Anyone having problems with Crane ignitions systems? I'm guessing since mine could be 15 years old it's time to replace it. Re: electronic ignition Posted by:

() Date: February 23, 2012 01:22AM For everyone's info
You never told us what size carb! And are your exhaust ports Angle ported? Exhaust is the biggest restriction on Vair heads.. not the intake... I think you are over carbed.... () Date: February 23, 2012 01:26AM That is good service on the electronic ignition, in my opinion. I have seen a lot of them fail early and suddenly. Does EI increase mileage?? Re: electronic ignition Posted by:

() Date: February 23, 2012 01:29AM After just dealing with a failed Pertronix, I suspect the Crane is dying. Swap in a standard point set-up and test. Mike YS-117 Re: electronic ignition Posted by:

() Date: February 23, 2012 01:40AM Hestating going up a hill hmm, Does the % of incline have a more pronounced hesitation? What carb are you using? Floats set properly? Is fuel sloshing out the vent tube if you are using a holley? Ya might want to look in this area first. () Date: February 23, 2012 03:18AM I run the same XR700 crane ignition system on my buggy, i have yet to have any issues, knock on wood. But so far, its been great, no hiccups. Mine is only about 5-6 years old.. But, i always pack a spare points/plate/condenser to get me home in case it fails.. If you have the same, you could always pop it back in, and eliminate that as an issue. I think with buggies, its more than likely carb issues, but ya never know..15 years is a good while. () Date: February 23, 2012 01:10PM As was written on CCF a week or so back, there have been many hundreds of posts here about problems with Pertronix systems, but no posts about problems with Crane systems. It's not likely Crane igniton systems have suddenly caught the Pertronix flu. Probably more productive to look elsewhere for your problem. Please post details if the Crane turns out to be at fault. 65 Corsa 140/4 A/C convert. CORSA+Vegas Vairs Re: electronic ignition Posted by:
